  1. Technically there is a 590 and a 690 but they are both dual GPU cards.
  2. Just get the Dark Rock Pro 3. It has 2 fans and is easy to install. Make sure your RAM can fit under it though. To give you an idea of how low it hangs, my GSkill sniper sticks have <1mm of clearance.
  3. I'm plugged into the modem/router from the cable company. I'll try unhooking my second router and report back tomorrow.
  4. It's not even going to be close, based on what they are saying. Obviously wait and see but I'd wager the RX 480 will demolish the 950 and the 960 very handily.
  5. Ok here's something interesting. I just got two drops and turns out if I open the menu to change my network adapter settings and disable/enable my ethernet connection, it fixes itself right away. Additionally, the uptime counter on my network webpage didn't reset when my internet dropped. What could this mean?
  6. They seem ok. I just have to wait for it to drop, which ironically enough hasn't happened yet today.
  7. For anyone interested in the topic, go watch a movie called The 13th Floor. Pretty cool sci-fi flick that deals with this exact idea. This is one of the most interesting ideas ever IMO. Assume for a second that what Elon Musk said is true, that we are living in a highly advanced simulation. This introduces a lot of questions. Who are the higher beings? Probability dictates that they too are in a simulation. Do they know? Is this simulation a perfect recreation of their universe, or did they introduce limitations for the sake of simplicity? I think it's fair to say that any such simulation can only be as good as the world it exists in, IE we can't create a simulation and add extra shit physics-wise. If we did it wouldn't be a true simulation. Was the simulation rigged such that intelligent life would be 100% likely to develop? If not, how many tries did it take? Do we exist in the "first run?" Are we even the target of the simulation? What if it's being run by aliens who don't give a shit about Earth or it's people. What happens when we reach the level where making our own, equally good simulation is possible? Does this imply that we are 100% sure that we exist in such a simulation? Does this imply that we have the technology to "escape"? Will the higher beings reveal themselves when we get to this point? Will we be able to contact them? What if they deem their simulation a failure? Do we all cease to exist? Do we start over from a restore point? I love this stuff, you can think about it all day.
  8. Here's my scenario: The router and modem in my house are both 5+ years old. My modem is the shitty modem/router that my dad rents from the cable company and my router is an old netgear n600 (no idea why we have 2 routers). I currently have my PC hardwired via a powerline adapter, which gives me about 6x more speed than using my wifi and I'm quite happy with it. The problem is this: At random times my internet will completely drop out for about 3 minutes. The frequency of this happening depends on the day, but it happens at least once per day, usually more. I know this isn't a problem with the powerline adapter because the wifi network coming from my modem/router does the same thing. I never noticed our other router dropping, which is a little confusing to me though. So, should I replace any of these components? For the more experienced bunch of you, does this sound like something that new hardware would fix, or does it sound more like a problem with my ISP (Comcast)? If I were to replace my modem, would I even be able to since my dad is paying to rent one from the cable company?
  9. It's the other way around. Doom has monstrously good performance for how good it looks. Not saying the 1080 is bad, but Doom was pulling a lot of the weight.
  10. There's really no definitive answer. Some games look almost as good on low as they do on ultra, for example the new Doom game that just came out. On the other end of the spectrum is a game like Skyrim that looks like it's running on an N64 at low settings, and looks really good on ultra. Also keep in mind that you notice shiny graphics less while playing the game. I noticed this with Dark Souls 3 while my friend was playing, the graphics look almost photo-realistic but while I was playing I didn't really notice and thought they were just pretty good. Framerate is what really matters as you will always notice it no matter how pretty your game is.
  11. Shark attacks are so rare to begin with, why fund something like this when stuff like mosquito laser defense systems work and can benefit so many people worldwide.
  12. There is a little arrow in the corner of the cpu that will line up with one on the mobo so you don't install it in the wrong direction. Always install the CPU first, then the cooler.
  13. 980 will crush 2 960s in performance and will give you less headaches. Seriously though if I were you I'd wait a little to buy an aftermarket 1070.
  14. None of this makes any sense. The min/max seat height for both models is the same according to the spec sheet, yet the chair dimensions page clearly shows a pretty large difference. And why would the chair for taller people be lower to the ground? Shouldn't it be higher since taller people have longer legs?
  15. Yeah I get that there are minor differences, but how can they say that one chair is for much larger people when they are the exact same size? I must be missing something.
  16. I'm trying to buy a DX racer but they are making it very difficult to do so. Most of the information on their site is either outdated or not specific enough. Hopefully someone here knows something about these so I can make a decision. I'm basically trying to decide between two models: http://www.dxracer.com/us/en-us/product/1/gaming_chairs/racing_series/oh-rv001-nr/ and http://www.dxracer.com/us/en-us/product/1/gaming_chairs/racing_series/oh-re0-ne/ As far as I can tell, there is basically no difference between these chairs aside from one of them being "designed" for taller people and one being designed for normal sized people. However, aside from a listing in the specs of the chair, I can't find a single difference that would support this. Both chairs have the exact same measurements all around, so how exactly is one magically suited for someone 4-5 inches taller than the other? Based on my body type I should get the small chair but the thing is that I reallllly want the tilt angle lock feature, which is only available on the chair for taller people. Does anybody know if there is an ACTUAL difference between the two chairs? I tried contacting their customer support and they have been extremely unhelpful, directing me back to information that I had already looked at.
  17. Why do people always assume that the old cards will magically become super cheap each time new ones come out? Why would Nvidia significantly lower the price? So everyone can go out and buy an old card instead of buying their new one?
  18. it kinda sounds like you're going to do it no matter what we say
  19. http://www.digitaltrends.com/computing/three-generations-intel-hd-graphics-tested/ No idea how they ran this bench, but as long as you keep everything on low it will be fine. That laptop has Intel HD 4000 graphics btw. And I was right, find a laptop with an AMD A10 so it doesn't look like you're playing an N64 game.
  20. Some expansion areas have upgraded graphics and can have a noticeable impact on performance. Wouldn't a laptop with an AMD CPU perform better in-game than an older intel CPU?
  21. The cooling performance would suck. Just think about how much bigger CPU air coolers are than GPU air coolers. Mounting a CPU cooler to your GPU though would give you amazing performance.
  22. a 980ti is a waste at 60Hz. If you were going for 144 it would be a good option. Just get a 970, or move to a 1440p display.
  23. It depends heavily on the game. What do you want to play?
