you are stuck with the modem your ISP gives you. if its just a modem you can buy a new router. if its a modem/router then you can just have a pass through to your switch or you can add a new router and just adjust the setting to bridge mode as you do not need DHCP. here is my setup: internet - isp - isp modem - PF Sense router - switch - access point - secondary switch in living room - tv - bed rooms - apple tv - unclaimed ports - cable

you wont need more than a gigabit switch. your pc and other components wont consume or use more than 100mb. if your talking about download speed, you only get as much as they give. if you want a good local network, that is dependant on your hardware/switch.

you should draw one of these. you can buy an switch such as a trendnet web smart. I am actually interested in this particular switch because you do not need to be an expert to operate it and its accessable via wifi. or you can buy something from best buy if you only need to switch up the connection and not control the connection.

You could be maxing out on the cable, pinched cable, improperly adjusted rear derailed. As long as everything spins you don't need lubricant. Also wd-40 is the worst thing to put on a bike.
