BoggyB got a reaction from Askew in British Antlion MocMic customers; Beware the customs charge!
To my surprise, the ModMic incurs quite a hefty customs charge from the Royal Mail (couldn't say the same for ParcelForce) of (for me) £12.21.

So if you plan on buying a ModMic and shipping it to the U.K., remember to add this customs charge to the price when considering the purchase! What should've been £31.14 ended up costing me £43.35, can't bloody stand mail services in the U.K. sometimes...

For those interested: Apparently if you ship something internationally, and the cost is too low to incur 'appropriate' VAT charges through the border, Royal Mail will slap on an additional charge (of whatever they want, as legally allowed) in order to get the package to you. Then they add on the cost of delivery since the money you pay to Antlion for S+H actually only goes to USPS.

I think this is something that Antlion should make clear on their website, since I wasn't aware that there were going to be such charges when I made the payment a few weeks ago.

What a well informed and non-biased comment.

So I've been watching a few examples of Tomb Raider with TressFX enabled, and I want to know why people think it's DAMOSTAWESOMEPOSSUMTHINGEVAR?

From what I can see in these videos, I'd evaluate TressFX with the following points:
The hair doesn't even collide with Lara's body, it hovers above it - Why? There's no collision with the arrow quiver, seems a rookie error to forget that Lara carries things on her back in this game. The hair appears both elastic and dry/clean - It seems the developers completely forgot that Lara's travelling through humid jungles covered in dirt, water/sweat and blood with no time to wash her hair properly. Particularly with this point, I'd say that switching TressFX off makes this more realistic. It swings and bounces in such an unrealistic fashion, flaring at any random opportunity even though Lara may simply be walking through a wind protected area. AMD's calling it revolutionary but I'd hardly even call it interesting.

Given that it's cool whenever someone releases some sort of physics system to make games more realistic and usually
, TressFX seems unfinished, uninteresting and I'd even go as far to say unnecessary.
What do you guys think of it?

BoggyB got a reaction from Whiskers in Swearing - Is it just a part of our language now? (Contains the swears!)
So, I consider swearing a natural part of my communication and I'm comfortable in its use universally. I'm British, 20 years old, a student. The reasons I'm specifying my nationality and whatnot is because not every country's language evolves in the same way. Swearing's fairly normal in the U.K., at least.

Of course, in jobs, university and so on, I'll still mind my language since I acknowledge that not everyone takes so well to cursing in the middle of a conversation. After all, not everyone has the same opinion.

Personally, I don't consider the words to mean anything in such a way that anyone should think "Oh my, he said 'f*ck!'". Whenever I swear, I either don't realise that I'm using such words, or I'm using it for comedic emphasis, again, probably not even realising it.

Of course, many might consider f*ck, sh!t and a$$ normal words in conversation, but how about c*nt, n*gger or wh*re? I understand that a lot of people are still weary of their use because of what they were initially used for. Of course, n*gger was a derogatory term to refer to black people, and c*nt was used to objectify women - But have we evolved from that?

I believe we're reaching the stage where these words are evolving away from their original definitions. Most people I know would happily say; "Haha, you tw*t!" if someone else is doing something funny/silly, which generates that response. They're not saying that out of dislike, they're saying because it's a funny thing to say to someone here. A lot of people argue that these words retain their original meanings and they shouldn't be used at all because of that - I disagree. If one's playing a game, for example, and says to their friend; "I'm going to kill you!", you're not going to take it literally because that's not what they mean at all. You don't need to live in fear thinking your friend wants to end your life. If someone isn't even thinking about the terms in a derogatory manner, I don't think it's worth sweating about.

Anyway, tl;dr, do you think swearing's alright and how often do you swear?

Precisely what I think. I think there are far more noteable cultural problems that we can focus on (such as sexism and racism) before we start picking at each other's vocabulary.

It's funny how worked up people get about this argument, to the point where either side will try to pluck numbers and technologies out of the air that really make no difference in the user's experience whatsoever.

Scenario: What do you want to do?

    Audience: WE WANNA PLAY GAMES!

Well-presentable presenter: Ok, so here are two platforms, pretty much the same except one's cheaper and scores slightly lower in benchmarking tests, but the difference isn't really noticeable.

Audience: **** THE RED PLATFORM THATS 4 POOR PEOPLE.
Other Audience: NO NONO **** THE BLUE FANBOIS THEY'RE HOMOSEXUAL AND STUFF.

    *sigh*
