  1. Yah, I realized I may just be venting about the idiot people I know in my own life that live in these areas and complain about it. Projecting and ranting a bit, lol. My bad
  2. Yes and no. They do have to live there if they want that job. My statement is more based around "if you didn't do any research about where the job was and the cost of living there, than tough shit when life is hard". You can't complain to the masses who don't even make half of what you make, about "how little" you are getting paid. It doesn't matter what your bills are. People making less money don't care, at all, about your money problems. And these people are basically complaining to the masses on Twitter, hoping for sympathy and raises. They live in their Ivory Towers, complaining to the peasants about how hard their life is. Rereading this, I realize I may be a little more bitter about this than I thought. I have known too many people that lived in LA and Silicon Valley that are always complaining about how hard their "perfect" lives are. Gets tiring to see how out of touch with reality they are.
  3. The problem is cost of lifestyle. And to be honest, unrealistic expectations. Yah yah, cost of living bullshit argument. Everything is so expensive when you live in the place where everyone makes tons of money, and more people want to live there than can afford to, and people who are desperate to look like they are living the dream life do and spend whatever it costs to keep up the facade. I have no sympathy for these people getting paid insane amounts but spending it all right back. Do some research before you take a job.
  4. I agree that we need to stop polluting more than we need to worry about direct heat transfer. And we are going to be running these datacenters regardless of their pollution and thermal cost. But, an argument could easily be made that using ocean water is actually better for reducing pollution and excess heat as a whole. This is because using ocean water to cool the datacenter requires less net energy compared to using air (as even "above water" liquid cooled datacenters still vent their heat to the air at some point). This means that while we are still warming both the air and water, we are actually using less fuel total due to greater efficiency, and also releasing less pollution as a result of that efficiency.
  5. I think his argument stems around the idea that we burn oil/coal/gas for power, this creates heat. We use this energy to power the underwater datacenter. The datacenter puts out heat. We are thus heating the air and the water at the same time, and this entire process never costs "heat" energy.
  6. I would say false positives are ok if the admins are proactive in responding to disputes. And err on the side of the player.
  7. While I think AI learning to prevent cheats is likely the future. It will have to be careful to not flag people simply because they are "too good". I forget which game it was, but they had anti-cheat that was based around player score/reaction times/accuracy vs the mean. They found that it worked great until player got good enough that they started to get themselves flagged as cheating because they were simply "too good". The devs ended up having to mod the anti-cheat, but it still created problems for a short time. So that would be my only concern, false positives.
  8. THEY DON"T UNDERSTAND OR CARE!!! (I agree with you)
  9. It is difficult to make the argument that people should be allowed to say what they want on someone else's platform. It is easy to say the government should not be allowed to punish you for speaking out. And it is easy to support punishing those who make claims/statements that are verifiably/indisputably false (such as libel/slander). But to claim that someone else (individual or company) should have to pay to host your opinions is difficult to support. Should Twitter (or anyone) have to deal with the PR storm that comes with hosting harassment/hate speech/ISIS recruiting/insert whatever current topics are heated? Especially if they disagree with it? Also, this would border on a weird position where content providers/hosters would be unable to moderate their own platforms. It would become insanely complicated quite rapidly with what needs to be removed vs what is not allowed to be removed. When can a website/service remove content? What is considered censorship? If a moderator moves a post to a different section of a forum, is that censorship? While the general idea that "censorship bad" "free speech good" is rather agreed upon, the implementation of complicated rules stating who is allowed to say what becomes problematic fast. This is kind of why we settled on the legal bounds of "government can't punish you for speaking out", but "companies can censor their products/platforms at their own discretion".
  10. Ah, so you are limited by the resolution of the smallest screen.
  11. The only games I would play using all 3 monitors would be games that allow the offloading of HUD/map type stuff. So that the "game" is shown on the main screen, and all the extra stuff is shown on the other screens. Similar to how some top down games will allow the full map to be shown on a secondary monitor. But yah, I figured a mismatch of resolutions for normal viewing would bad.
  12. My concern isn't the desktop. It is playing a game across all 3 screens. A game that is already graphically intensive.
  13. I know 1 card can handle 3 monitors. But do you think a card can handle 4k plus dual 1080p monitors and still keep up the framerates?
  14. It has been a while since I have had multiple video cards, and I remember it used to cause lots of issues running a game on multiple monitors using multiple video cards not in SLI/Crossfire. I currently have a GTX980 with a 4k that I use as my main, and a 1080p as my secondary right now. But I am looking to get a second 1080p. So I would have the 4k in the center, with the a 1080p on each side. I am planning on getting a new/additional video card, but I am not sure if I should just replace the 980, or plug in the 1080p monitors to the 980, and hook the 4k up to the new card. I don't anticipate any issues playing games on just the 4k. But will I have trouble playing across all 3? Do they all need to be the same resolution? Will not having the cards in SLI be a problem? I have tried googling, but there is just so much fud out there it is hard to tell what info is current, and what isn't. I would only be using the multi monitors for gaming in games like Star Citizen and other Sim type games.
  15. LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL @LAwLz, you are really living up to your name. People learn, lol. From past experiences? lol Just absolutely hilarious. May I point you to "insert any preorder here". Maybe you would like some "insert article about graphene or newest battery tech". The people have no memory or ability to extrapolate based on prior experience. Good one LAwLz,
  16. I don't.... Wat??.... The only reason I could see someone doing this is because they were that weird level of "know how to change stuff to make it work", but also had no idea what they were doing and why it worked. Like knowing to change a proxy server on your corporate network or something, but having no idea why it works or what is actually happening. Or they were testing something and forgot to reset it? Which is worse in my mind, cause it means they knew it shouldn't be open but were so careless they forgot about it.
  17. I gotta agree with this, kind of tired of seeing threads and articles about "totally unfounded rumors" that are completely made up by the "news" site.
  18. At the same time, if any 1 company found a cure for some type of cancer, they could charge absolutely insane prices. And they would make insane amounts of money, until another company figured out a way as well. There are too many companies in too many countries trying to find the cure. And the first one to find a cure will reap huge rewards. Insurance companies would pay astronomical rates for a cure, since it would likely be cheaper than treatment.
  19. So I have been looking at the Norco cases for many years now, and the reviews always seem to be the same. About 3/4 of the people claim to have no issues, aside from some QA case issues like things not fitting well. And the other 1/4 seem to have a minor or major issue, but seem to be unable to get any response from Norco support in any way. From what I can tell, the build quality seems to be all over the place, and no one seems to be able to get support for any issue they have. But at the same time, the people that don't have issue say the cases are "amazing", "best thing ever". Yet always seem to throw a caveat on there when they praise the case saying its "great for the price". Which to me says "its crap, but I didn't pay a lot". With so many older server chassis/cases on Ebay for lower or comparable prices, I am curious how any actual owners feel about them when they aren't reviewing it for the sales site.
  20. I was aware, but with how much things have been changed up and reversed then redone in the last 2 weeks, lol, I figured it was safer to aim wide. And as we have seen here in the US, the companies don't ever fail to get the changes they want, they just get delayed (such as SOPA getting killed, then brought back under different names until it finally got passed).
  21. You say this like every trade agreement the US is trying to get signed with people (TPP and whatever the NA/EU one is called) doesn't have DMCA like wording. The US basically said accept our stupid copyright laws or don't trade with the US. Our corporate overlords are doing everything in their power to spread their power. Fight it while you can.
  22. Not directly, and not for Intel CPUs for sure. But China owning the production companies will allow them to sell for below cost, which they have done before. Which will force everyone else to lower prices. They won't also go below cost, but people will have the option of cheap ass Chinese parts, or normal priced parts from more reliable companies. So it will really depend on how important the thing is to you if you are willing to risk the low grade Chinese parts.
  23. While I agree that they are getting paid peanuts compared to US wages, we have to give credit where its due. They are improving wages, and that is good. But no, we shouldn't rest and call it a day, always room for improvement. But doubling wages is progress for them, even if we wouldn't think it is much.
