  1. CAT-6 cable costs nearly the same price as CAT-5 cable, so if I were to wire it across multiple rooms then it would probably be preferable to have it as a CAT-6 cable. I haven't explored the idea of power line networking in much depth, but I've heard that the quality of the connection is really dependent on the quality of the copper power lines so could it possibly be worse than WiFi at long distances? I am definitely open to testing out power-line networking as an alternative to drilling through multiple walls, but if completely necessary, I guess I'll just have to drill and wire a cable. As such, are there any good power-line networking adapters that would work well for my needs? I've seen a lot of people seem to recommend this TP-Link TPL-406E2k 500 Mbps adapter which also seems to be sitting at a good price point. Thanks!
  2. I'm looking to find a PCI-E wireless network card or a USB network adapter that would work well with a Netgear Nighthawk R7000. There have been a lot of past posts that have asked relatively the same question except I've noticed that none of them really come to a solid answer as the OP never gives additional details about their setup, so I'll try to be as detailed as possible. The desktop I would like to hook up to a wireless connection has multiple PCI-E slots and legacy PCI slots available as well as multiple unused USB 3.0 ports. I'm currently using a crappy ASUS N-13 Wireless USB adapter and have been running into stuttering issues while trying to stream 1080p content through PLEX (this computer acts as the Plex Media Server.) I only occasionally play games on this computer so a super fast latency isn't my top priority; a wireless solution that is stable and consistent would be preferable. My current internet connection is only 30 Mbps down and 3 Mbps up (lol Canadian internet), so I probably don't need anything too top-of-the-line. I was browsing around and saw that this TP-Link TL-WDN4800 wireless adapter was rated super well on amazon.com and sits at a good price point. I'm looking to spend around $50 CAD, so I would prefer the retailer be a Canadian one given that the dollar is so crappy compared to the American dollar. Given my usage, would it be beneficial to grab an AC wireless adapter or would a high-ish end wireless N one be perfectly fine? I would only really use PLEX or Xbox One game streaming over the local network and wouldn't transfer large files. Unfortunately, a wired connection isn't possible for me unless I wire CAT-6 and drill multiple holes through multiple rooms and walls which would pose too large of a hassle. I also have not considered powerline networking as a lot of people say that it's hit or miss, and I would like a solution that would work without any afterthought. Any suggestions would be appreciated, thanks! EDIT: I also found this ASUS PCE-N53 wireless adapter here, but the reviews online don't look too good. Any ideas? Thanks!
  3. Linus, you might want to block out your license plate at around the 3 minute mark.
  4. Aside from the issue with thermal throttling, are there any other major flaws with the surface pro 3? Build quality issues? etc. I'm considering buying one for University as the form factor seems really appealing for portable usage. Thanks!
  5. The introduction of front facing speakers for the Xperia Z2, and the meticulously cut skins from dBrand (the skins are always a perfect fit.)
  6. The speakers are my favourite thing about this laptop. Nowadays, laptop speakers are usually sacrificed for portability, but this laptop sits at the correct balance between the two.
  7. The narrow bezels are my favourite thing about the G3. The HTC One really screwed up with one screen buttons and the gigantic HTC logo that takes up a bunch of screen space.
  8. and people always wonder why everyone is always in debt...............if you can't afford it immediately, don't buy it.
  9. Definitely the BoomSound speakers. There is no other phone that even comes close to the quality and practicality of those speakers.
  10. For me, a smart watch is simply another alternative to access notifications and functions that my smartphone already has, so it's not really that hard to pull it out of my pocket to check. Maybe smart watches fit in some peoples' niche, but for me, the available features don't justify the high price tag.
  11. I don't think the focus of the announcement is for purchasing the TV, but mainly to show the the technology is here. In several years, it will inevitably become mainstream and affordable. So by then, I guess you could predict that 8k content would become somewhat widespread. Exciting!
  12. Sadly, the issue still persists after I tried using Nvidia's Geforce 331.93 BETA drivers. Windows has detected it as a hardware error which i'll attach an image to this. The solution Windows suggests is to simply update my drivers, but I have tried it many times with no positive results. Any suggestions? Thanks.
  13. I recently cleaned out my computer completely, so dust isn't an issue. Here's a picture of my temps while running Furmark. Here's an image of what the artifacts kind of look like, however replace the yellow colour with rainbow artifacts:http://i.stack.imgur.com/rBTN5.png
  14. Hi. I've recently been having checkerboard artifacts all over my screen at random times. I haven't been able to manually reproduce it, but it seems to occur more often when I'm watching full screen movies using any media player (I normally use VLC, but it occurs in WMP too). The artifacts look like small rainbow colored boxes arranged in a checkerboard like pattern and appears all over my screen, with the occasional exception where it occurs in a small area. When the artifacts do occur, I lose total control of my computer as nothing seems to respond until the screen turns black and then reloads itself. I have not overclocked my GPU or CPU, so it's not an issue of overheating but I will attach images of my temperatures below. Windows Action Center also reports that the graphics driver has stopped working. When simply in desktop or playing games, the issue doesn't occur at all or a very minimal amount compared to when I'm watching a movie. I've tried to totally uninstall all the Nvidia drivers through the control panel, then booting into safe mode and running Driver Sweeper. I reinstalled the essential Nvidia drivers in safe mode, but the issue still persists. I have a feeling that Windows 8.1 is to blame for these issues however they only recently started happening (within the last 2 weeks), and I've been using 8.1 since release. My Specs: Rig was built last summer. Windows 8.1 Pro x64 Media Center i5 3570k @ stock GTX 560Ti @ stock Gigabyte Z77-D3H 120GB Vertex 3 1TB WD Blue Corsair TX 650V2 The images for temperatures attached are after I get the artifacts and the issue that Windows detects. I will try to attach an image with the artifacts occurring but it recovers too quickly for me to take a picture. Any suggestions? Thanks.
  15. Since you have a Nexus, Stock 4.4.2 & Xposed with GravityBox. Not that I'm saying CM isn't stable, but with this setup, you get all the neat features from a custom rom as well as the stability. Xposed is great because everything is through modules, so you can enable or disable features completely to your liking. If you want PrivacyGuard like in CM, I'd recommend XPrivacy with Xposed since it's pretty much Privacy Guard but better as it's much more specific with permissions management.
