  2. eh 1700 is dead better off with am5 if you want actual futureproofing and the 14100 is just a renamed 12100f still using alderlake afaik and the 12400 is neck and neck with the 5600x, keep in mind that the 5600x is overclockable and can be found for pretty cheap used alongside its accompanying am4 mobo can pick up used midranger b3/450 for around 50$ like the tomahawk or equivalent and there are used 3600(x) for 50$ with 5600(x) at ~80$ worst case theres the 3100-3300x-3500(x) for 30-50$ depending on your local used market if you wanna buy a dead platform do it properly and get the best bang for buck not buying new like a complete moron and ripping yourself off with a 100$ board and 95$ cpu that has the same if not worse performance than cpus from 4 years ago 1700 is only viable with a 12600k(f) and ddr4 cause if you can afford ddr5 you can jump over to am5 with a cheap 7600 (~180-200$) or even an aliexpress 7500f (130$) and get a much better board at the 100-130$ mark like the b650m hdv whilst getting a cpu that draws less power and is straight up faster in singlecore with a platform where you dont need to do a mobo swap or ram swap (if you get hynixes) to upgrade the cpu
  3. Steam provides developers tools to lend Valve's anticheat service in their games, called Game Bans. They appear on user's profiles. Once enabled for the publisher API key, you can ban any user that owns the game with a simple HTTP request. While Valve disallows the use of this API for any non-cheating purposes, it hasn't stopped malicious devs from abusing this to attack, suppress, or potentially even racially discriminate their own customerbase. These Game Bans are shown on Steam profiles and will permanently mark users as cheaters, destroying their reputations, which is their nefarious goal. They know they can get away with it, as they have been able to do this unpunished, for years now. The victims can't retaliate, as Valve has a policy to simply not help and ignore banned users. They redirect victims to their abusers, which is obviously not going to do anything. There have been many attempts to make Valve aware of this problem and have them do something about it, but they do not seem to care. What do you think of this? "SAFETY RISKS ASSOCIATED WITH THE PRODUCT TYPE"…

I mean...what did you buy, if you don't mind me asking? I have never seen this message before.
  6. Usually when you have the core temp in acceptable ranges but a dramatically higher hot spot in excess of +30C, its because of poor contact or the thermal paste is defective in some way (could be poor application from the factory). Its unlikely that the delta between the core and hot spot is that high due to a lack of airflow, but not impossible. If you're comfortable doing it, repasting the graphics card would be a good idea. What's the history of that card? Was it something you got new or used and how long have you had it?

    Got my learners’ permit today!

We have something similar here, we call it L17 and it's basically a normal licence but you start at 16 (instead of 18), drive 3000km with an adult and then as soon as you're 17, have driven 3000km and passed the driving exam you get your full licence. Really useful, because you get a good amount of driving experience before being let loose on the roads (and because you get your licence sooner)

    Got my learners’ permit today!

I see So it basically a license to turn you into a driver (and possibly gopher too) for an adult
  9. I am in the process of making images for a large amount of computers with many different users so I am trying to keep all of my shortcuts in group policy. I can get all the URLs I need to go up just fine but I am lost on how to do it with applications such as ms paint, notepad. As well as shortcuts for logging off, restarting, and shutting down the computer. Any ideas are appreciated.

    Got my learners’ permit today!

It's a license you need to go to school in the US, you can't learn without one. (it's a restricted license for driving in the US, you get one at age 15, allows you to drive with an adult in the car)
  19. Here's the info from HWInfo64
  20. Arctic 36 may be a bit weak for a 5900X full blast, but if you undervolt it a bit and keep PPT under 140W (don't need eco mode) it'll work fine I think

I finally created my account just to ask this. Was reading an article on Ars Technica about an HIV outbreak that started because of a process called "Vampire Facials". It mentions "microneedling" which I remember Linus mentioning when he shaved his beard. Does anyone know if that is the cosmetic procedure he got done? https://arstechnica.com/science/2024/04/dirty-vampire-facials-behind-first-hiv-outbreak-linked-to-spa-treatments/

  23. Or you could save those double digit dollars and save up for something much faster like the bottom of the barrel 14100F. Agiven you'll need a new motherboard but in the long term you'll save significantly more money building yourself a strong foundation than keeping alive a system that's begging to be put down
