Day 2 - Happy Patch Tuesday!

Good evening folks. The title of this blog may suggest that patch Tuesday is an event worth being giddy about... it is anything but. That is why I begin this blog with a serious message. If you are on Windows, check your machines. When Microsoft releases the latest update, it often downloads and restarts your system! During folding events, it takes many systems down. For all of the Windows folders, I ask that you pause updates for the next four weeks or run the update manually. That should solve the problem!

The weather has been amazing last few days. The clear skies and warm sun are great for everything except BOINC. At least the CPU project run cooler than the GPU ones. It's hard to believe that we are already in March. Anyway, today I'm listening to some Rod Stewart while writing. I'm letting Spotify pick the songs. Spotify Link

Today the team earned 9,177,455 credits. That's 588,564 more credits than yesterday! This makes the new event total 17,766,346 credits. Keep it up! I want to see a 10 million point day! As for individual projects, the team earned 83,616 credits on the 'ol Rake today, a solid 1,781,773 and on SiDock, the team earned 1,781,773 credits. However out of the bunch we have been most active NFS earning 5,041,326 credits, and on MilkyWay earning 2,270,740 credits.

It looks like we have some action in the top ten today!

On the throne we have danwat1234 with 4,649,894 credits. Dan was has certainly put the rubber to the road and is keeping a solid pace. In second is leadeater with a total of 3,396,870 credits. Leadeater certainly seems like formidable adversary for Dan. We'll see if these prophesied 1000 cores come online. Rounding off the podium we have Geralt with 2,041,201 credits. It looks like he has stepped up his credit production over the last 24 hours. Climbing up FOUR ranks and landing in fourth we have Chachunka! Chachunka now holds the rank with 1,178,479 credits. CWP or as I always say, "Cool WPerson" is now in fifth with 1,021,733 credits. The not-so-new kid on the block, Cadeus, is in sixth with 816,627 credits. In seventh, kiPPei is keeping up a steady pace and holds the rank with 757,604 credits. In eighth, Favebook is taking full advantage of all four projects and holds the rank with 545,015 credits. Sequence211 remains in ninth and claims the rank with 405,470 credits. Last but never least we have our honourable gatekeeper Mxyzptlk. Mixie climbed two ranks today and now holds the post with 287,018 credits.

Now that we have two days of crunching on the board, we can begin my favorite section of the blog: "The movers and shakers!" This is where I talk about the people who have moved the most ranks today and anyone else who I find interesting! @suchamoneypit is on the board and has climbed +21 ranks thanks to the crunching of 105,304 credits. Now that's an impressive feat! suchamoneypit is now in 21st and threatens to keep moving up. @justpoet is also on on the move! Justpoet earned 91,843 credits today and climbed +11 ranks landing in 23rd. I also have to point out @dogwitch who climbed +8 ranks to 27th today. Both @Kilrah and @Rusted gained +3 ranks putting them in 15th and 39th respectively.

Sorry again for the delayed blog. A few people had their CPID swap, which happens occasionally when adding projects to different machines. Most of the time we try to fix all of the multi-CPID issues before anyone notices. If you ever notice that points are not being added to the sheet please let me know!

 See you tomorrow!

Please keep in mind, the minimum participation requirements for prizes and badges are:

 - Activity on at least 19 days during the event (activity is defined as earning credit within a 24 hour period))

 -  Produce at least 25,000 points by the end of the event.

-Credits will only be counted for the following projects: NFS@Home, MilkyWay@Home, SiDock@Home, and RakeSearch

Please remember that this is a friendly event, but we are all crunching for Science, and GLORY! We are a team first and individuals second, so give thanks where thanks is due and hit that reaction button when someone helps you out.

For folks running Windows Professional Edition - You have access to the Local Group Policy Editor, via gpedit.msc, which may be used to disable unattended Windows Update restarts.

Use [Win]+[R] to open the run dialogue.
Enter `gpedit.msc` and [Return]
Navigate to Local Computer Policy > Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Update > Legacy Policies (Windows 11) or omit the Legacy Policies level for Windows 10
Locate the policy titled "No auto-restart with logged on users for scheduled automatic updates installations" and open for editing.
Set State to "enabled" and Comment to "Yes"

Exit and reboot

Alternatively this may also be accomplished via regedit (not personally tested) Source

"You can also use Registry, to prevent automatic restarts when a user is signed in. Under HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate\AU, set AuOptions to 4 and enable NoAutoRebootWithLoggedOnUsers. As with Group Policy, if a user schedules the restart in the update notification, it overrides this setting."

Not all updates respect this setting, but it helps reduce downtime if your host(s) hate being rebooted and as noted in the reddit comment if a user schedules a reboot that counts the same as a manual reboot which supersedes this setting.
