Day 13 - Web server is down (Error code 521)

That's what greeted all of us when we went to check in on the happenings. All was quiet on the usually active folding month thread. There were two different error screens I saw. The first was the Cloudflare "Web server is down" which I first saw when checking the forum before heading to bed at about 9:00 UTC. I pinged @Dr. Will0hlep but wasn't too concerned. The message was still there when I woke up. That's when I realized the forum might be down for a while. Around midday PST there was a different error screen that mentioned something about storage space. Did anyone else see that one? That's when I realized that I may need to put the blog on the daily stats sheet. Luckily the forum is back up just in time! However it happened again right before I was about to post the blog!

The exact reason for the outage has not yet been shared but the team appears to have been hard at work. I'm sure Mortis or someone else on the team will post a more detailed write up in the next few days. I'd like to first dismiss the rumors that I cut the Ethernet cable while @HoldSquat held the door closed while installing F@H. These are ridiculous and completely untrue! I wasn't there! @HoldSquat seems like the type of guy to handle things solo.

I remember when the forum was hosted on a computer in the Langley house. Quite a few forum members found their way to the Folding + BOINC thread in the LTT Discord. In the rare event this happens again, that will be the team meeting spot.

To keep with the theme, today I've listened to "Shut Down" by the Beach Boys and "Start Me Up" by the Stones. At the moment I'm listening to Stephen Colbert's interview with Pete Townshend. Edit: I'm listening to "Shut Down" again.

You know what? I think HoldSquat may have had an accomplice or maybe... More than one accomplice! That would mean someone else was folding on stolen hardware! First off, the team daily total is 4,882,788,576 points. The team event total is now at 50,825,009,906 points. This is an increase and gives me hope that we can have another five billion point day! However the timing is a bit... suspect... The daily total had decreased the previous two days but now increases when the forum goes down? Coincidence? I think not! I actually have a few suspects. The first one would be Intrinsic who mysteriously gained +23 ranks today. Impressive but maybe too impressive. Next on the list is rcarrascosa. Climbing +22 ranks and breaking into the top 200 is something that doesn't go unnoticed in this town. pinnij is also looking suspect after gaining +16 ranks within the last 24 hours. NeilOMalley has a big move climbing +15 ranks and breaking into the top 50. That definitely puts him on the list. Zacxen has has a sudden burst in power climbing +13 ranks to 128th. Hmmm.... RetroTechie looks quite suspicious after climbing +12 ranks and earning 24,954,493 points within the last 24 hours. I don't think it's grillmaschine since his PPD is remaining consistent as he climbs +11 ranks. CoffeeKeeper, lilbitcoin, and ItTakes2ToMango all gained +9 ranks today One of you must have thought you were being sneaky by blending in and not gaining too many ranks. Your strategy and clever plans are no match for the law! I demand an explanation from all of you! Someone who definitely didn't do it was SacrificialAnode who earned zero points today and fell 19 ranks. :old-sad:

Alright, now for the top ten countdown! It looks I was correct yesterday about the marathon beginning. There have not been any rank changes in the top ten.

Stobin holds the throne with 10,703,232,539 points! Congrats on earning over ten billion points. I'd also like to point out that Stobin has produced 21.06% of the event total. This has never been seen in a folding event before! In the 2025 BOINC Pentathlon we saw @danwat1234 produce 64.5% of the team's WCG total and @leadeater produce 21% of the overall team total. Following up the madman on the throne we have SAZrocks with 2,118,501,076 points. miker07 is in third but does not seem eager to let SAZ claim second. He continues outproduce SAZ and holds third with 2,002,592,918 points. Justaphf is in fourth and holds the rank with 1,667,556,967 points. Justa appears to be keeping pace with SAZ. Mxyzptlk remains laser-focused on claiming fourth as he out folds Justa. Mixie currently holds fifth with 1,367,288,865 points. In sixth, lightmaster is keeping it steady and holds the rank with 1,171,961,343 points. Gorgon continues to fold WUs by the hundreds in seventh. He holds the rank with 929,099,861 points. Nearly a billion! In eighth is Chachunka with 827,031,224 points. Koeger is in ninth and continues his pursuit for Chachunka. Finally, we have the honourable gatekeeper Shlouski with 763,081,905 points. He better watch out for ir8munk33 who is speeding up the leaderboard gaining +8 ranks after producing 128,214,416 points today.

In case you couldn't tell from my very serious tone, I don't think any of you actually broke the forum. :old-grin:

Except maybe cbigfoot… He told me to save the blog in a word doc in case the forum went down again… And it did.

See you tomorrow!

You're right, I am more of a solo saboteur, I would have just used my LTT Screwdriver to hold the door for me @TheLANguy, that's of course if I would do anything like that 😏

....It was @cbigfoot though, I saw him pop out of a vent

nah it was  light master all along!!!

Sorry i work in IT i know how all clear we fixed this rust bucket goes...it's all clear till someone tries to use it then it burns down again...then you find the next issue, and you say its fixed it works a day or 2 then craps out again for absolutely no reason...

also dang it @LAR_Systems i know we are having a solar storm, but you need to conserve your energy on Mars you don't get this much extra energy every day store it for later... 😉

Looks like I missed the forum being down while spending time with my partner, but glad it's back up. I'm hoping my daily avg continues to increase if I stop getting stuck on being assigned a new WU, each time that happens my PPD drops quite a bit and from the chart below you can see that it's happened a few times now >:c

Ssssssshhhhhh

I'll keep quiet as long as you don't add any more to your setup. With the current hourly averages, you're looking at finishing 100-200m below me. Deal? 🤣

That's the graph from the v8.5 beta page, you can click on the page and it opens a graph with a few different settings you can change to see different views
