Day Four - Folding Month 2018.

We have seen some movement over the last 24 hours or so and its been quite exciting, today we folding over 85 percent of LTTs total production! Also guys due to the sheer number of inactive names on out database, if you haven't registered your folding name with Stanford by the time the application form closes(November 6th, 23:00GMT) then you will be removed from the database and will no longer be able to participate.    And, the standings so far are as follows, The King is managed to h

Day Three - Folding Month 1018.

I pulled an all-nighter night before last to get the spreadsheet fixed, So last night I crashed and slept like a baby, the spread should be fixed, some of today's points production may seem high for a few people but that was to bring them in line with their real total points. The week column is perfect, thus the most important data is not exactly as needed. The reports should be completely accurate from now on unless mistakes are made. Just as a side note the event members have produced 79% of L

Day Two - Folding month 2018

Well guys, the second day has passed and oh what a day it has been! The spreadsheet is broken currently and I am single-handedly doing a validation of all entries manually. That is points and work units, for over 220 participants, for 3 days worth of data. It is taking some time, but we will get there! so, DISCLAIMER: I am pretty sure there are some errors in this update, the sheer flood of new applicants overwhelmed the spreadsheet we are using and well it broke... just a little. Day One - Folding Month 2018

On the first day of the event we have seen four people take more than half of all the points for the event members. We have, rather expectly, King Poet in first place with just shy of 5 million points, with a sizeable gap to myself with 2.3 million.. Porina and Gorgon coming up in the next group both just a little over 1.8 million. Dissit and Palespartan are both hovering around the 1.5 million point mark for today. Givintvt, TVwazhere and stilnman are coming in at the 1 million point park. Roll

Why are physics engines tied to frame rates?

I came across the news about Fallout 76 has a problem: you can edit a value in one of the ini files which affects the frame rate, and then the physics engine is tied to that, with the end result is players are able to move faster simply by rendering more frames. Obviously this is a problem but why do developers design the physics engines around a frame rate? You need to have a rate of change. Frame rate is a convenient source of what the rate is.   A lot of equations in physics are ove

T- 3 days(or round about), Folding month 2018

Well it is that time again folks. We are now up to 114 sign-ups, damn it is spectacular to see, the only downside is the amount of work I have taken on.  Thanks to Gorgon for helping out to ease some of that! One thing I have to say is once the month is over I really hope to see you guys continuing to fold. We have always punched well above our weight class when it comes to the number of active folders we have compared to the number of points we can churn out on a daily basis. When I first

Well we are starting to heat up with the WAN show shout out there has been an explosion of people signing up, 94 in all as of time of writing! Please remember guys if you are participating them you need to be folding for the Linus Tech Tips team or your points will not be counted. I have seen a couple others points dip the last day or two, I'm guessing you are either experimenting with your overclocks or you have been having some much needed maintenance, either way, I hope it has been helpful.

My general software development axioms

An assortment of random axioms that I try to think about when doing software development work. The reason why I hold to these usually falls into one of these reasons: Making the most efficient use of my time Minimal need to maintain the code (hopefully, maybe) Ease of maintaining the code Ease of reading and understanding what the code does Finding the best way to make efficient software, without tramping on the above Regarding the software development proc

Why Android Phones are better | A response to LTT video

Throughout friday of last week and this past weekend, many of you replied and told the truth about why you bought an Android phone.   Today I wanted to consolidate what we learned about why people buy Android Phones and to remind people that Android is awesome and nothing Apple fanboys say can take away from that.   Reasons to buy Android phones: * iPhones are too expensive   @Sauron has stated:   @LordOTaco says:   @Spotty explains:

Microsoft's documentation outlining that MS sells customer data collected through MS products and services

As shown in a link at the bottom of this page, Microsoft's own reporting shows that Microsoft is recording data from over 3,100 individual data-points in Windows 10 Home and Pro, even when data-harvesting is set to its absolute minimum configuration.   It is notable that Microsoft was an eager participant in the US government's illegal PRISM spying program, and voluntarily gave its users' and customers' data to the US government without informing their users it was doing so. Certainly,

You legally own the software that you purchase, and any claims otherwise are urban myth or corporate propaganda

Updated August 2020     Some of the bottom part of this post is a paste of a message I sent to Steam support following the seemingly-bullying actions of a Steam forum moderator who has been falsely telling people that Steam rents / leases games through their service and doesn't sell them, and who was intolerant of anybody telling them they're wrong. That moderator liked to do things like delete posts and lock any threads where people demonstrated otherwise.   To be clear

The Core i9 notebook conundrum

Well, that’s not so great.   You might have heard that Apple recently refreshed the MacBook Pros with the new 8th-generation Intel Coffee Lake CPUs, including the top-of-the-line Core i9 8950HK. And you may have also heard that the very same configuration generates so much heat to the point where the MacBook’s chassis and cooling system could simply not handle and resulted in the CPU being unable to maintain base clocks. Obviously, this is quite a big issue and it really begs the quest

Is It Time for Me to Drop Amazon?!

Just looked at my new shift at Amazon, and am thinking about applying to either Lowe's or Home Depot for a better shift (with possibly better pay). This would be nice, since those companies might be more flexible with shift hours than Amazon, and that would definitely help with being able to keep a job during the school year. I really would like to have stable income during the year, and leaving Amazon would kinda kill that. If I could get a higher hourly rate from a different company (higher th

Doing circuits and landings...

Today, I was able to fly in both the morning and afternoon.    Our morning flight was delayed by an hour due to fog/mist however it did clear and thus we were able to fly. We did 7 circuits however they were all low passes. Circuits were suprsingly less demanding that I had expected.    In the afternoon flight, I did my first landing! We did 3 touch n go before we exited the circuit to go over what to do in an engine failure. We then came back to do a shortfield landing.
