144hz monitors vs 60hz

Pyromaniac321654

I've been wondering, what does a 144hz monitor feel like. I use V-sync, and without it the game feels more snappy and weird, is this what 144hz feels like? Any help will be appreciated :D

A 144hz monitor would be literally more than twice as nice, but think about the FPS you're getting in games. If you're under that 100fps in most games you play you wont take full advantage of your refresh rate.

Moved to Displays.

The reason why having V-Sync off makes it feel snappier is because of the reduced input lag that V-Sync naturally creates. Having a 144Hz monitor doesn't inherently do anything if you can't output sufficient FPS to utilize the increased refresh rate. When I play games at say 100+FPS, it feels much more snappy and responsive. Comparing my 60Hz and 144Hz displays....my 60Hz monitor feels comparatively laggy and choppy.

As it stands, a 144hz monitor is overkill for most people because there aren't many cost effective solutions for driving a AAA ultra game at 144fps.

But how often do you buy a display? Like one can last 10 years (mine has). So you might as well get it, and 5 years later when good 144hz hardware comes out for cheap, you'll be ready to go!

would there be any stores that would let you test them out?

I don't go outside much lol.

Call all the local stores in your area and just ask them :)

Ill admit, it took me a couple days of playing on 144hz to get use to it, i thought i made a mistake at first lol.  Now i just realize it was something to get use to(for me atleast).  After getting use to 120/144hz i could never go back so ill always have one around, even the desktop experience is so much nicer(moving windows around mostly).

I'm also wondering, does v-sync really make that much of a difference to justify a $50 premium?

V-Sync? Do you mean FreeSync?
