Home Server Chassis

madcar86

Can someone suggest a Home Server Chassis for me. It will mostly be running Plex and File Sharing.

I am looking for the following

  1. Under $250
  2. Preferably Rack mountable
  3. Plenty of HDD space (4 or more)
  4. Easy Installation
  5. Can fit ATX mobo

Some feature that would be nice but necessary

  1. Looks nice
  2. Hot swap-able HDD
  3. External Bluray Drive
  4. USB 3.0
  5. Noise Reduction

Any suggestions are appreciated.

rack mountable may be an issue, because rackmount cases generally arent the most nice looking and noise optimized ones, and terribly overpriced.

something you can do is take an enthousiast grade case (define R5, or similar) that has a height less than racksize width, and mount it on a rackmount shelf.

So far i have looked at Silverstone and iStarUSA. I will check out Norco.

I was thinking about the Define R5, I think it looks like a great case. I wasnt sure if I could mount it in a rack though, i hadnt even thought of getting a shelf.

For a total of $250 I will be surprised if you can find even half of those things. My suggestion would be to get a case and then put it on a shelf in the rack mount ( or the bottom thats what I did) good luck!

silverstone GD07 and GD08. they are about 180 dollars and there is a rackmount kit available so you can mount them in a rack which costs 20 dollars and is basically two brackets. beautiful finish on those cases as well.
