New notebook memory causes OS not to boot

Go to solution Solved by MsTrMind,

DDR3 1066 MHz SDRAM, 2 x SO-DIMM socket for expansion up to 8 G SDRAM

Your ram is to fast :-) Causing instability. Check your bios, maybe you can lower your ramspeed.

Hi everyone!

I own an Asus K52F notebook and i decided to make some RAM upgrades. I currently have 2x2GB of RAM with the following specs:

th_cpuz2_zps432c1094.png

I went online and bought a Corsair Value Select 8GB SODIMM DDR3 1333MHz kit. I installed it into my laptop, but the OS (both Windows 7 and Linux) won't boot. The memory shows up in BIOS and they run at the same frequency as the old ones. I also tried both sticks with one of the old ones (so it would be 6GB of memory). The same thing happens.

Does anyone know why this may happen?

Thanks!

I'm assuming the RAM just isnt compatible with it.

What do you mean by won't boot? Do you get any error messages? What happens when you don't go into the BIOS but allow it to boot normally?

Either the RAM is faulty

OR

When you were replacing your RAM your BIOS reset itself and your main hard drive / SSD is no longer the default boot device. It could also be that you unplugged your storage device by accident or something?

So yes, what's the exact error you're getting?

WHen i start the laptop it get's to the OSs loading page (e.g. Starting wndows) then the notebook restarts itself. If I try to boot an OS image from a memory stick it gets to the "Windows is loading files page ..." then it restarts. Same with Linux. If i run a memory test, the notebook shuts down completely.

In BIOS the two sticks are running at 1066, the freq shouldn't be the issue.

It's probably faulty RAM, try running one of the sticks from the kit at a time and it will probably work fine with one of the sticks and then fail to boot with the other.

You'll need to RMA the kit.

Already did that, with the same results

Just to be sure, the original sticks still work right?

Well we can't help you with anything here, it sounds like the RAM sticks you bought are just... dead. You'll need to RMA them.

A bit late, but I replaced the RAM sticks with another two having 1066MHz and they worked.

Hello!

Excuse me, but I too have a Asus K52F and would like to upgrade the RAM. Can you link me to the sticks you bought? I have found some options already, but I'll rather buy the same as you since then I already know they are compatible. Thanks for any help :)
