Amd cards driver crashes

baijinhan12

Hello I recently built a rig with a msi R9 390 8Gb in it. However when I play games, after 5-10 minutes the game starts to freeze/crash and i get a black screen. When I close the game after it crashes it gives a "display drive has failed and recovered", eventhough I have the latest amd drivers : 15.7.1

My specs:

I5 4690k

Msi z97-gaming 5

Coolermaster hyper 212 evo

8 gb ddr3

120gb kingston ssd

2tb seagate hdd

Windows 10 64bit

Latest driver is 15.8 actually - which 390 do you have? The gigabyte model is know to be broken.

Have tried it a several times, but it still doesnt work

remove the driver via DDU - if you have had an Nvidia or AMD card in that system before - remove those drivers as well.

use DDU with both your current brand and the brand that was before and remove everything - then install 15.8 - also keep an eye on temps - it could be overheating and make sure your PSU is good quality and enough wattage and amps on the +12V rail

From my experience 15.8 is more stable than 15.7.1 - had some issues with it.

My old rig with an R9 270x doesn't have any issues with the latest drivers.

I have had my MSI GAMING 390 8G for 4 days now on the exact same drivers.

i5 760 3.7ghz

8GB ram

Windows 10 x64 Pro

Not a single problem.

Seems like a card issue?

Or a bad PSU - or bad airflow causing overheating.

It's a decent PSU - true - but that doesn't rule it out as a suspect. Even the best PSUs fail from time to time. Try with a different PCIe cabble or a different PSU if possible.

Try the card in another system - you might have received a faulty one.

It's quite weird because a week ago I could still play games. I didn't apply any changes meanwhile

Hmmm - I am going back to the idea about the PSU breaking - check if it does the same in a different PC before RMAing
