Need Help Overclocking GPU And CPU

Mcmole
Go to solution Solved by Mikjul,

With the mild overclock the system is no long bottlenecked. (Noticed massive FPS's jumps went from 30-35 FPS , To 60+).

So in laymens terms with the crappy motherboard any GPU OC i do will not affect FPS or performance?

It is entirely up to you, but you will see MASSIVE gains from the new intel system in comparison to the gains with your AMD one.

System Specs:

Coolmaster CM690III Case

Currently Running Windows 7 HP 64 bit

AMD Phenom II X4 840 processor (Stock 3.2ghz)

X2 4gb Rendition DDR3 Ram Sticks = 8gb Ram.

ASRock N68-S3 UCC Motherboard

Galax GTX 960 GPU

Kingston V300 SSD

1TB Hitachi HD 5400RPM

Logitech Z506 5.1 Surround Sound Speakers

LG DVD Burner/Writer Drive

Palsonic tftv6042fHD

Cougar RS 750 Watt PSU

World Of Tanks Edition 2014 DeathAdder Razer Mouse. And Mouse Pad.

Logitech G930 Headset.

Ok, so I have done some basic overclocking with my last GPU which was a  ASUS  GTX 560 Ti with Afterburner. And I have fiddled around in the bios and done some basic overclocking of the processer aswell. (Currently Its running at 3.44ghz a very miled overclock), I would like to push that to 3.6 Ghz if possible. And I would like like some advice on how hard I can push the GPU to get the best out of it. From the little knowlage I know about my card its not a bad overclocker. (just need some tips and tricks).

Would love peoples advice. I have never updated the BIOS of my motherboard.

My new Gaming PC.

Put CPU volts 1.45v

CPU ratio to x20

That mobo is terrible, DO NOT OC on it.

So your advice is to leave it how it is...Very mild overclock on the CPU (because havent had issues with it for over 6 weeks running with the current overclock?)

And Eventually I will be swaping to a new motherboard and Intel System, Thinking atleast i5, If Not i7, but just have other $ issues atm.

So what about the GPU any advice?

A GPU OC will not do anything in most titles due to your CPU being a bottleneck, just wait for your shiny new intel system :)

I might have a spare Old i5 system I can steal from family. Give me a few mins and Ill get back to you with specs of what board and what i5 moddle it is and let me know if its worth the hassle of changing my system now or should I wait to buy a new board and system in the future.

Ok so the semi-free Intel system I can chuck in right now would be a MS-7613 Motherboard with a i5 650 3.2 ghz CPU...Any point swaping out the system now over what I have already?

Or just wait and save with what I have now to upgrade later on to a new Intel Asus Board and i5/i7 depending on price combo?

Try it out and post up some comparison numbers.

Honeslty Its alot of effort to swap the 2 bords around on 2 diffrent systems. (I would be putting the AMD set up into the current Intel build used by the family for media center work...)

So without it being a clear yes or no its worth it..Ill hold off and wait.

Looking at the CPU comparison numbers the intel can stand to benifit the most out of a large OC, However the AMD is newer and ahead in numbers already. So based on this alone

I'll stick to my current motherboard and system till its last days. And then I'm converting to Intel.

Edit: Thank you so much for your imput Mikjul, Ill be upvoting your answers :) Thanks again
