Possible to add stitching to a mousemat?

Guest

I'm about to paint this old extended mousemat I have lying around, and I'm curious to know if it would be possible to add stitching to the edges?  I mean all you would have to do is get a little piece of fabric and fold it over, then sew it up.  Right?

Why?

If the edge is terrible or peeled off, then stitch.

Lol of course not by hand, and I have no sewing skill whatsoever.  I'm asking my grandma to do it xDDD.  She would love it if I gave her something to sew.
