AMD equivalent of 1 core Xeon

Go to solution Solved by Liam-McShane,

Pretty much anything with more than one core would trounce it.

What would be an AMD equivalent of 1 core Xeon @ 3.7 Ghz?
Or a pentium / i3 equivalent of 1 core Xeon @ 3.7 Ghz?

In terms of server horsepower. If i'm hosting a 32 slot game server on VPS with 1 core Xenon and i want to build my own server that has the same performance, i would have to buy.........     Pentium G3258?  AMD X4 860K ?

hehehe ..

If you need strong single core performance, the G3258 is a good bet, it will outperform any AMD cpu when it comes to that. But like DamnTarget said we'd be able to help you better if we had some more details. Most servers would benefit from multiple cores...

Desktop:     Core i7-9700K @ 5.1GHz all-core = ASRock Z390 Taichi Ultimate = 16GB HyperX Predator DDR4 @ 3600MHz = Asus ROG Strix 3060ti (non LHR) = Samsung 970 EVO 500GB M.2 SSD = ASUS PG279Q

Notebook:  Clevo P651RG-G = Core i7 6820HK = 16GB HyperX Impact DDR4 2133MHz = GTX 980M = 1080p IPS G-Sync = Samsung SM951 256GB M.2 SSD + Samsung 850 Pro 256GB SSD

Well, right off the bat the 860K is better for server hosting then G3258 if the server program you're using can leverage more then one core

Insurgency.

But if 1 Xeon core can run it......

If you have it then you should try it.

But you will have a better experience with more cores when you want to stream/run a server.

  More than 2 at least.

Thanks.   Insurgency game with 32 player slots. It's an FPS on Source Engine. That's it, no teamspeak, nothing else.

Thanks. 860K and G3258 were just random guesses from me.  So  860K = 1 xenon core @ 3.7 Ghz?

If you're using all 4 cores then 860K will be waayy better then single-core Xeon at 3.7GHz

Thanks. I just have no idea how powerfull 1 xeon core is.   But do i need waaayy better?  What CPU would have the same performance as single-core xeon (not waayy better)?

What Xeon is it specifically?

Honestly if you're using all 4 cores even a low-end laptop will be more powerful then a single-core Xeon

Dunno, all i know is that it's clocked at 3.7 Ghz.

I have a pentium G3240 dual-core 3.1ghz  laying around, is even that more powerfull then a single-core Xeon?
