Is 750w too much?

G'Day,

Here's the build: http://au.pcpartpicker.com/p/T2snJx

So basically I'm just asking if my 750w PSU is too much for what I'm using? I haven't got the rig yet, so feel free to throw ideas out there.

I could always just get a better, lower watt power supply instead of my current one.

I don't plan on going XFire or SLI in the future. and I'll only overclock my i5 a little bit.

 My Buyer’s Guide!

Yes, it's overkill. A decent 550w would already be plenty: http://au.pcpartpicker.com/part/evga-power-supply-100b10600kr

You can very much change your mind about XFire or SLI down the road. A 550W will be fine, but I would still advice that you buy a good ~750W PSU. It will mean that you wont have to buy a new PSU for the next many years to come, no matter what other setup changes you go through.

seems fine for some expansion room to me

Don't really plan on expansion, when the 290 becomes extinct I'll just get 1 better card. And the only CPU I plan on upgrading to in the future is the i7 4790k

That's an extremely valid point.

I'd go with a lower wattage, but still at least 80+ gold certified.

Main PC: 4690k, LMG Edition G1 Gaming GTX 980, 16GB Hyper X Fury, Asus Z97-A, EVGA G2 850W, Crucial MX100 128GB, WD Red 1TB 2.5", Dark Rock 3

Laptop: Asus UX305 Monitor: Asus PB278Q Keyboard: Filco Majestouch 2 TKL Mouse: Corsair M65

It is totally okay! You should stick with it as long as you want expandability and overhead in anykind. If you dont want something like that you can stick with a 550 or 600 Watt PSU

This. I'm glad that I got an 850W PSU when I build my current rig. Yes, it was absolute overkill for 1 card, but I recently upgraded to SLI, and I didn't even have to worry about buying a new PSU. If I hadn't had this PSU, I would've had to get rid of a perfectly fine PSU, and spend money on a new one. I'd say the little extra for the security of not having to upgrade is worth it.

550W is fine for that. Get something quality from Seasonic, XFX, Antec, SuperFlower or similar. Some EVGA models but not all
