Question about verifying retail version of GTAV on steam

GarnetDevil

So i just bought GTA V this afternoon

Realise that I got a clean retail version of the game so I copied it to steamapps/common. However when I tried to verify it (as in the windows that show " Discovering existing files on GTAV "), steam automatically deleted that folder upon completing and begin to download new copy of the game

So anyone here can give me a detail on how to properly verify a retail version of this game to be associated with steam? I've already activated the key and I heard some people said that they should work with steam after verifying

I don't quite understand what you're doing.

Did the copy you buy come with a steam key or not?

I add a non steam game, should be at the top somewhere, then select the folder.

No, I pre-downloaded it before 14th April, it was a clean version, like the one you should have at RSC after downloaded

I bought on steam, the folder only missing some steam api stuffs, directx folder, everything is kept intact, it's not quite a non-steam game though

TL;DR of what I just said if you still don't get the point: Already have GTAV before release, bought it on steam this afternoon, tried to verify that version but got deleted instead and proceed to download new one

I don't think there's a way to avoid that. You're SOL bro. Just download it.
