CPU cooler with 158mm maximum height

PhilGoodInc

Hey all, I'm looking to replace my stock i7-4790 cooler with another preferably air cooled. (not comfortable with liquid in my pc). I was all set to get a Noctua NH-D15, but unfortunately it is too to big fit in my case. The case is a Cooler Master Silencio 452 and specs say the maximum cooler height is 158mm. The D15 is 165 with fan and 160mm without.

Can the fans be moved on the d15 to be the same height as the heatsink?

Any other good Air coolers that would fit?

The NH-D15 is much overkill anyway for a 4790.

I suggest going with a cheaper cooler. For alternative suggestions, it would help to explain why you're looking for an aftermarket cooler.

Mostly loudness when CPU is under load. It gets annoying since it sits on my desk next to my monitor.

I've since discovered the NH-L12 which seems like good value for money, or should I be looking for something that keeps the airflow moving from front to back?

I'd suggest getting the Noctua NH-U9S and maybe putting another fan onto it so you can run it in push/pull, this will greatly help with your temps and it is both small and silent.

(extra fan clips are included with the cooler)

the cooler itself:  http://noctua.at/main.php?show=productview&products_id=105&lng=en

an extra 90mm fan:  http://noctua.at/main.php?show=productview&products_id=103

The NH-L12 would be fine.
