How do i check if my motherboard works?

Hi guys,

I just bought a motherboard (ASUS M5A99FX PRO R2.0) and i want to check if it works (i got it on ebay).

Sadly i do not have any of the other components for it apart from a PSU and CPU cooler. is there any way i can check if it works? I would assume i could just plug the PSU into it and see if the little light turns on but would i need a CPU or anything else for that? Also, what power connectors would i need to plug in? would it just be the 24 pin or thers as well????

Just give the board some power and if the LED on the board turns on then it sorta works the only other way to know if it truly works would be needing a CPU to see if it posts

So do you mean that you don't have a CPU to put in it? Not sure of the dangers of powering it on without a CPU, not something I've ever though of.

 

If that is safe, you'll at least be able to take note of some LEDs and at least see if it gets power, but you won't be able to test:

PCI slots

SATA ports

DIMM slots

CPU socket

USB headers

case connectors

or rear IO, which is all pretty important stuff.

Okey dokey, it looks ok and i'm pretty sure that if it powers on everything else will be fine, ill try that, cheers
