I don't think there is any argument against the thought that the i7-4790K performs better for the most part than the FX-9590. What is interesting is that an i7 system can also be built for less than the OP build.

 

If the FX-9590 build is going to be used I would suggest a much better cpu cooler. Something like the H110 or Kraken X61.

Except for the budget he could have gotten the 970 and still be under. :) I have nothing against the 960, I'm replacing a 750ti with a 960 but the 970 would be a better option. (Heck a 980 could fit in his budget)
