Final Gaming Build - Need advice before ordering on 01/30/2015

aboulay

Hello fellow enthusiast.

I am in the process of building a new gaming pc from scratch for myself. That being said, i have selected all the components that i want and am asking for the community to give me nay feedback if needed. I know the i7 4790k is a little overkill along with the 850w PSU, however this is due to the desire to allow for upgradability in the future (along with the ram of course). As for the corsair carbide 240 and the MSI GTX 970, i am aware that the case does not allow it to fit exactly, however given the deal of it being under $400.00 Canadian, i am willing to mod the case with the window on the outside to keep the build in the red/black theme i am going for.

That being said, let me know what you all think.

MSI GTX 970 GAMING 4G GeForce GTX 970 4GB 256-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support G-SYNC Support Video Card

CORSAIR Hydro Series H100i Extreme Performance Water/Liquid CPU Cooler. 240mm

Corsair Air Series AF120 CO-9050015-RLED 120mm Red LED Quiet Edition High Airflow Fan

P.S. I am going for a Micro-ATX build in order to keep the form factor small. Before anyone comments, i am biased towards the green team as well as team intel.

Thank you all for your input :)

That card doesn't fit in the 240 case. The heatpipes stop you from putting the side panel back on.

the card fits if i remove the window panel and put it on the outside. In the end, its 25$ cheaper than the g1 which i would have gone for .... but i do like the design of the card :$

Did you consider the Node 804 case? It is a touch more expensive. But that could be offset by going with less expensive ssd  & memory parts. The performance differences would not be noticed in general use an gaming.

would the node still fit an h100i in the front? also hows the cooling of this case? i do like it and you are right, it isn't half bad.... might change to that upon further inquiries.

See the Water Cooling Compatibility section at http://www.fractal-design.com/home/product/cases/node-series/node-804. There are numerous options for mounting the H100i.

With 10 fan mounts, I believe one should have little difficulty arranging sufficient air flow. That said, cooling dual gpu on an mATX motherboard is always going to be a bit challenging.

If I were to switch from the msi gtx 970 to a gigabit g1 gtx 970, would that still fit in the corsair carbide 240? I ask as after doing some digging, I much prefer to the and spacing (not to mention the cable management) of the 240 over the 804.

As it turns out the g1 gtx 970 is only $15 than the msi. I may be now considering using that in my build instead.

The G1 is 312mm, 22mm longer than the 290mm max gpu length specified for the Air 240. Asus Strix GTX 970 is too tall at 140mm.

I believe the EVGA ACX 2.0 cards will fit. As will those with blower style (stock) coolers. The GTX 970 4GD5 OC blower style card will also fit.

If the plan is to SLI, don't forget to add the height that the bridge rises above the cards to your overall height calculations.
