Will probably OC the cpu to 4.5 GHz (hopefully) though this will be for 1080 gaming but I'm aiming for bang for buck and (i hate this word myself) future proofness. Does the 6300 bottleneck? I'd go with an i5 but they're still not cheap enough to work.

Ummm, that PSU is overkill, also, that CPU is quite old, using a Pentium Anniversary will be best.

Planning on trying StarCitizen (Highly recommended)? STAR-NR5P-CJFR is my referal link

I'd get a Pentium Anniversary edition, it's a very good budget chip and in the future he can get an i5. Also, the PSU is overkill tbh

For AAA gaming, G3258 is a poor choice.

That MOBO looks horridly cheap made, and I don't like the NZXT Source cases, even though they're dirt cheap.

That MOBO looks horridly cheap made, and I don't like the NZXT Source cases, even though they're dirt cheap.

It's just the looks. It's been proven to be made very well and although the only chip it can OC is the G3258, it can OC those chips just as well as high-end Z97 boards. Definitely no problem for a locked i5.

 

Case is personal preference. If you're willing to spend more then you can get a nicer looking case :)

Nope not at all. Overclocking at high voltages is what reduces CPU lifespan. At stock speeds you can have heavy load on it all day long with no large effect on longevity.

That what I was generally asking about, lol. I would rather save money and have a more high quality mobo for expansions in the future and have a decent CPU, than go intel.

What do you mean? The i5 mops the floor with the FX-6300, there is no competition. Also there will be no more CPUs for AM3+, so only upgrade you can do is to an 8-core which will not provide a huge performance increase in gaming.

I've built in the Source 210's tons of times. They're a great case for the moeny and most people like the neutral look of the black windowed model. As for mobo, I'd recommend a cheap Gigabyte one. They're black and gray plus offer decent features.

Not to mention that the 6300 is a 3 core with 6 threads and the 83xx is a four core with 8 threads. By AMD marketing standards, my 5820K is a 12-core CPU :P

Well AMD's architecture is more then just HT, since all 6/8 FPUs ("cores") can actually be fully loaded individually at the same time. However because of the two-FPU-per-module, each individual FPU or "core" is a lot weaker then a physical (not logical) core from Intel.

Yeah, true. I just thought it was funny, as I recently built a computer with a 6300 and it showed up in Task Manager as a 3 core 6 thread CPU.

I know intel is by far superior, though for games do I need the extra CPU power? What socket will they be using then? I think you mean FM2.

Yes, in some games FX will bottleneck a 290. 

 

And no, I meant AM3+. It is confirmed dead. Next-gen AMD FX chips will be using a "new" socket, presumably AM4, but they may merge the two lines of boards and use FM3 for the next gen FX's.

XFX is trash. I'm not going to go deep into it, but this video gives you a general idea of it from a performance standpoint. For the same price you can get the worst non-reference 290 or the best non-reference 290.

 

And the TruePower Classic (Seasonic S12G) will mop the floor with the CX600 before eating it raw and shitting it back out again. It's absolutely a steal for the same price as a CX. Never thought I'd see the day tbh
