840 Evo problems.

zacRupnow

Windows 8.1

i7-4790k

MSI Z97-GD65

128Gb 850 Pro - boot & non gaming programs

500Gb 840 Evo - Steam and Origin - drive won't respond properly and the Samsung utilities to fix it won't work. Maybe need to wipe the drive? - Don't know how to do that.

All drivers seem to be up to date.

840 crash

Following this process will restart PC and begin scanning then repairing the drive, then Windows starts up and it's the same as it was before the restart/scan/repair process

Had (new) it since the end of summer, didn't write to it much other then initial install for Steam and Origin games along with Nexus Mod downloads every now and then for Skyrim. Two days ago Windows started displaying a flag in the task bar saying a drive may be damaged and it had to be scanned and fixed, I would allow Windows to do this and it didn't fix anything, using anything installed on the drive is not working (no important data, just games). I tried different SATA 6 cables and ports but nothing worked, then I remembered seeing in the News section a while ago that Samsung released some updates, drivers/firmware ect. to fix 840 Evo problems, so I went to their site and got all the latest SSD downloads http://www.samsung.com/global/business/semiconductor/minisite/SSD/us/html/support/downloads.html

I don't know how to install the firmware download shown here.

Evo

However the 840 Evo Performance Restoration software seems to do that for me, but it never gets past that firmware step, it will finish, restart the PC and instead of moving to step 1 it will only be able to redo the firmware step.

evo2

To address the red notification at the bottom; all drivers are up to date.

(There is no drive detected in the picture because it's not in my system right now while writing this)

On attempting to reach Samsung support (email option - I'll try phone tomorrow); http://www.samsung.com/us/support/contact

I've been all over their site and the only spot to contact them had a product selection. My drive is MZ-7TE500BW

840 crash support

840 support

and when I picked the product the next step would never be unlocked.

If it's not broken, take it apart and fix it.

What do you mean by the drive is not responding properly?

  • 2 weeks later...

I've tried contacting Samsung, nothing. I'll try going to one of their offices soon but in the mean time I'll try Newegg.
