Intel Core i5 4460 Best mid range CPU?

Hello respectable PC geeks,

I guess this is a no-brainer question but I am not quite sure or convinced about its answer. I am going to build a new Rig for my gaming sessions and I would like to get a straight thoughtfull answer.. Intel Core i5 4460 (or higher model) of AMD FX- xxxx ?

I am going to play all games mostly 1080p but my favorite ones are CS:GO and BF4. I already ordered my R9 270 OC from Asus which is enough for my build.

On Mobo and RAM thingy I will go with MSI Gaming 3 (if Intel CPU) or Asrock 990FX Killer (If AMD) as for RAM KINGSTON HX316C10FK2/8 8GB I think will do just fine (16 Gig i think is too much).

PSU-wise I will go with a 600W Antec 80+ Bronze is fine.. for single GPU no overclock.

Overclocking yes, here is my next question. I am not gonna overclock cause i dont see the point of it if you dont have an i7 or something.. Does this mean i should drop the AMD?

I have read thousands of reviews and threads cause of this dilemma. In all of them they say buy the i5 they dont specify enough tho... Yes I know Intel CPU's are single core optimized and yes i know most games use 2 except BF4 and Far Cry 4? i think, but would it be bad the other games such as CS:GO which is my favourite to be running worse with the AMD and better with the Intel?

I dont even know guys.. I am confused head over heels... Help me cause I am THIS FRIKIN CLOSE to abandon the whole project...

Waiting for your answers,

Thank you for the time you spent reading my shit.. I will award you all with a photo when/if I set it up! xD

5 Days till X-MAS :D

I would have thought the opposite. An i7 is always going to perform well in games, at stock or whatever. But for budget stuff you're getting as much additional free performance as you can, so surely it makes more sense?

In terms of which CPU to get, the 4460 performs slightly better than the FX 8350. But then it also costs a bit more so. Yeah. Have you decided a hard budget that is the maximum you're willing or able to pay for a CPU?

I'd say the i5 4590, but that's a personal opinion. Sorry if I sound like an Intel fan boy, but stay away from the 8xxx FX series for gaming. The 4460 is still a great chip and you'd have no problems if you want to stick with that.

Yes but Core i5 4460 vs 4690K which is my next option as a cpu are pretty much the "same" in perfomance as I looked at the benchmarks only 30-50 fps I would sacrifice 50 fps for 70 euros on the cpu.

I dont care if you sound like one. I care about performance at its best and what Chip will give me that withing the price range of 4460 to 4690K. I kinda liked 4590 too its the same with 4460 but more Ghz

I would personally grab the 4690 myself. Its on the lga1150 socket so you could switch to broadwell if you wanted. Not exactly budget though.

Edit: oh sorry yeah I wasn't talking about Intel per se, just generally.

I agree, but the 4590 is slightly more expensive. If possible, I'd go with the 4590.
