First full gaming build with view to maybe Overclock

To start with here is my basic plan so far

CPU: Intel Core i7-4790K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor  (£244.94 @ Aria PC)
Thermal Compound: Arctic Cooling MX4 4g Thermal Paste  (£3.99 @ Amazon UK)
Motherboard: ASRock Z87 Extreme3 ATX LGA1150 Motherboard  (£87.87 @ Amazon UK)
Memory: Team Xtreem 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-2666 Memory  (£118.69 @ Overclockers.co.uk)
Video Card: Zotac GeForce GTX 970 4GB Video Card  (£239.99 @ Amazon UK)
Total: £731.42
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

and these are the components I already have bought

http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/3167294.htm

Worth noting here that in the UK at least most cases sold by argos come with a psu though I wont know which one till it comes through, it will be 750 watts but the call center didn't hold details beyond what is listed on the site. I am hopping that it is one of either the coolermaster or evga psu's listed on their site. Now my total budget is £890 which cannot be extended not even by £0.01 and with the case/psu now bought the remainder for internals is £802.01

Now i'm not going to change from the i7 4790k but I am open to suggestions for the motherboard and ram, though the ram must be 16 gig as I am currently maxing out my 8 gig set (cant reuse as some of the budget is selling current computer to brother) my thinking so far is to get the team extreme ram and underclock it. I also need a full version of widows so total price can not ignore it.

Finally dose anyone have any hands on experience with the seidon 120v regarding a good swap for a quieter fan but same temp range?

Edit: So turns out that the argos thing is a major typo on argos's website and catalogs as I had bought the case having first asking and the sales person confirming it would come with a psu they are sending me a

Not being a i5/i7 nazi but why would you need i7 for gaming anyway? Most game won't utilize its hyperthreading, you can go for an unlocked i5 and put an SSD in your build

You see I actually do utilize the hyper threading so between an i5 and i7 the i7 will leave me happier. To note my current rig has an i72600 (I paid for the 2600k but when i did a destructive os reset it started listing as the 2600 instead damn you dell) and the cpu is providing an occasional bottleneck. Could the CPU bottle-necking be related to this name change?

Oh and i said it in an edit to the first post but the PSU is http://www.argos.co....ber/3148828.htm

Well, in that case you might want to spend on an aftermarket cooler if you want to OC later

Still I would advise against i7 in the 750 ~ 800 pounds range, but it's your money anyway

The case I bought came with an AIO water cooler good enough for a moderate Over Clock and the Cpu im planing is one of either 4790K for £244 or 4770 for £219

I really just need to know the best price-performance mobo so I can start ordering parts in budget (where I live in England there are literally no hardware stores save for Maplins)

Get the K, with the AIO cooler you can push it for more power by overclocking

If there's little no difference between 4770K and 4790K I suggest going for the newer one

Basically what i was thinking also but with the tight budget if a decent mobo is too much id have to scale back to the older one

Also I know the PSU is not the best but with the approx maximum load being about 370 watts I will get about 87-89% efficiency out of it, and when you consider the 5 year warranty If it dose fail in two years as some have done I can at least get a replacement.

So build is now functional though missing the graphics card, likely wont get that till January now, and temporarily running Ubuntu (hate it). Now I am having a slight issue the cpu i7-4790k idles at between 26 and 30 Celsius but quickly jumps to 60-70 under even the slightest load and can climb to the 90 degree range quickly if I am not careful I am using a corsair seidon 120v cooler, could this issue be caused if I have too much thermal paste installed (I normally use the stock Intel coolers so struggle with proper paste application) or do I need to try something else to get the temps to behave?

On a strange note can run FTL:Faster Than Light without heating up and minecraft at 60fps max graphics at about 40 Celsius but Chrome, Steam, Desktop etc all cause these random spikes

Build all but finished now GPU should be coming next month and windows is installed. Solved the overheating problem for the most part now, though the system fan isn't speeding up to with cpu load (talking to gigabyte to figure out the problem) the chip temperature maxes at 90c so if I can get the fan working properly should manage 75c-80c. managed to hit an idle temp of 15c when i forced the fan to run. Decided not to overclock at the moment, might buy a pentium anniversary edition to practice with as I don't want to destroy the i7.
