N64 on a monitor

esefem

I have an N64 that I play on with my roomates all the time. The TV we were using just broke. I was wondering if it would work to buy an adaptor and use my PC monitor.
My monitor has VGA and DVI inputs.

I was thinking of something like this

Any suggestion/thoughts? Is this a good solution?

Thanks

Should work just fine.

You might want to get a Female RCA Audio to Female 3.5MM audio adapter so you can connect the red and white connections from your N64 to that, then plug your speakers into it so you have audio.

Specs: CPU - Intel i7 8700K @ 5GHz | GPU - Gigabyte GTX 970 G1 Gaming | Motherboard - ASUS Strix Z370-G WIFI AC | RAM - XPG Gammix DDR4-3000MHz 32GB (2x16GB) | Main Drive - Samsung 850 Evo 500GB M.2 | Other Drives - 7TB/3 Drives | CPU Cooler - Corsair H100i Pro | Case - Fractal Design Define C Mini TG | Power Supply - EVGA G3 850W

The right adapter should work, but be warned that many old consoles look pretty bad and just "wrong" on a modern monitor.

My recommendation is to use Project 64. You can make the game look MUCH sharper and MUCH less blurry.

I have thought about emulation but I mainly play smash bros and mario kart with my roommates so controllers are the main reason I want to keep using the real thing.

I'm coming from using it on a 720p widescreen TV, so I feel like it won't be too jarring of a switch from that

They have adapters that let you plug in old school controllers. I got one for gamecube and it works great.

The bigger issue is those types of adapters usually introduce a lot of input lag.

I would second using an emulator and getting controller adapters.

I honestly don't think that would be a problem. Adapters seem fine, check reviews.

hey if you could use the n64 console with a gigantic old CRT.  You only need to drive up to a local junkyard and get one for free.. :)

its nice not to have the clutter of an old crt though.

I think the device you showed should work just fine for what you want to do.   emulators are pretty good too but its another thing to have to hook up four controller adapters and get them all working with the emulator.  That can be hard to do..  So I think you have the right idea.
