Um for asrock, I'd probably only go as high as the anniversary edition, haven't used much of their products, but their killer 990 FX for AMD kinda had problems. So i'd take the safer side and go with MSI. Assuming if price isn't a problem..

I'd go for Asrock z97 Extreme6.

It has great reviews, and it's pretty hard to find a mobo with decent reviews.

System: Thinkpad T460

Since you already decided between the two. I'd personally go MSI.

I've heard bad things about MSI, but I've heard good things about the MSI Gaming 5 mother board.

you are going to hear a lot about all the motherboard manufacturers.

best mindset is to research all your connectivity needs (SATA support, NIC

support, USB needs, fan header support, and PCIe slot needs) and pick

the best mobo in your price range and move on, there really isn't a crap

board, just those that bought the cheapest and expected the most expensive

performance.

I am looking at the Z97M-Plus for my build. Which cpu are you using and are you overclocking it?

I'm using the MSI gaming 5 here and have had no problems. Great audio for the price if your into that kind of thing. When building my PC I dropped the screwdriver on the mobo and thankfully I have not seen any problems resulting from this lol. But I guess you could say its durable? xD But if you are undecided I would recommend this board. I tried OCing on it too and it was easy and I got 4.5 with no problem on 1.25v.

I don't know if you already made up your mind but I'm actually using an Extreme4 and it's a great board for the price. Two close friends of mine have one as well and they're happy with it, and I'm planning on buying an Extreme9 for my next build.

Don't pay too much attention to rumours, I've seen people claim that 90% of the mobos they send back are Asus, which is absurd.

There's always the faulty one and you can bet its owner will put up a real pandemonium online to complain, that it's not indicative of anything.

AsRock's not a bad brand at all, and I'm surprised so few people review their motherboards on YouTube.
