ASUS X550DP Laptop Brightness won't change help!

Go to solution Solved by beebskadoo,

Revert back to the previous graphics drivers. It's an issue with a lot of laptops.

fn + f5/f6(brightness function key for this model) won't change the brightness! Not even the one at Battery Icon->Adjust Screen Brightness->Slider won't do! Help D:

I type gently even though my WPM is 140ish and I'm very sure it's not the keyboard's fault since whenever I use the fn + f5/f6, the brightness slider will appear on the upper left but won't move. I tried using the mouse when it appears and slide it but the brightness won't still change. Help :I currently stuck with the lowest brightness, which I prefer, but when I play CS:GO, I'd like to increase the brightness but I can't do it anymore D:

This model is the one with the AMD A10-5750M w/ Radeon HD 8670M + 8650G. I tried using the CCC's setting to change the brightness but that's a different story, not the kind of brightness I was expecting :I

Hmm not sure if it's because of the driver, this driver worked for a few weeks before this issue happened. I'll try that later and see if it fixes my problem.

Try doing what @beebskadoo suggested. I know when I had a AMD based laptop, it acted really freaky when I used a driver not provided by the manufacturer.

You can find the driver here: http://www.asus.com/Notebooks_Ultrabooks/X550DP/HelpDesk_Download/

Sometimes the brightness settings get broken when updating to an unsupported graphics driver, the oem (in this case Asus) a lot of times controls the brightness settings through their own approved graphics driver. I see this issue all the time.

Really? @_@ I updated my driver using AMD's automatic and detect shiz in their site because I've found a thread before that some version 14.x improves a laptop's gaming capabilities by enabling mantle which is not found on 13.x and previous versions. Jeez, should've done more research. After updating, things that I've noticed are it doesn't detect the discrete GPU as HD 8670M but instead shows 8600M which I find weird but at least 14.7 detects it compared to 14.1 wherein the discrete GPU is not detected at all which I thought is good enough. I don't see any mantle options in the CCC but a few options were added like CPU Frequency and Wi-Fi switch. The FPS in my games didn't improve either. Geez AMD ._.

Downloading atm, internet here in the Philippines so slow and expensive. $29 for 2 MBPS :I The AMD driver on ASUS' site is 216MB, takes around 15 minutes to finish D:

Will update you guys if this works.

Dayumn, it worked!!! Thanks guys! I find it odd though, why did it act funny a few weeks later from the start of update? I guess I'll stick with manufacturer's driver if I want things to work xD Thanks again :D
