Great 256GB SSD Recommendations?

DavePC

Hey guys,

I'm in the market of upgrading my old Samsung 830 128GB SSD with Win 7 and plan to migrate to a 250-256GB SSD, with Win 8.1 thrown on.

Looking for an SSD on the faster end of the spectrum, but still a great value.

(like a cross between the Samsung 840 Evo and the 840 Pro)

(evo for value and speed, pro for reliability)

Any suggestions?

Most SSDs of today are reaching the peak of SATAIII's throughput, so the difference between most SSDs in real world applications is more or less neligible. I'm more concerned with warranty and reliability than performance.

Case: Corsair 4000D Airflow; Motherboard: MSI ZZ490 Gaming Edge; CPU: i7 10700K @ 5.1GHz; Cooler: Noctua NHD15S Chromax; RAM: Corsair LPX DDR4 32GB 3200MHz; Graphics Card: Asus RTX 3080 TUF; Power: EVGA SuperNova 750G2; Storage: 2 x Seagate Barracuda 1TB; Crucial M500 240GB & MX100 512GB; Keyboard: Logitech G710+; Mouse: Logitech G502; Headphones / Amp: HiFiMan Sundara Mayflower Objective 2; Monitor: Asus VG27AQ

Get a 840 EVO it's a great SSD that should suit all your needs :)

Also if you want a great professional grade experience pick up an 850 pro. The new 3d nand they put in it really improves the experience. :)

This. Good options: 840 EVO/PRO, Intel 730 Series, Kingston HyperX 3K

wouldn't the best option be 2 smaller cheaper drives in raid 0 when it comes to performance? in regards adata has a couple decent skus which end up being cheaper than a single 512 for the same storage

That would be not be very reliable.

There is a reason its called Raid 0- zero reliability.

Thanks everyone, looks the the Crucial MX100 is the way to go.
