SVN alternative for storing and updating a large number of files

I currently have an SVN system set up for a project which needs distributing to many people each time an update is made. The project contains a number of large (500/600mb+) files, plus a very large number of tiny files (60,000+ 10kb files) - not code.

SVN is useful due to it's versioning and update mechanism where only the chages to a file are downloaded, but it's not very efficient with the large number of small files and takes forever to update.

 

Is there an alternative solution available which allows multiple users to have access to a versioned project, with incremetal updates, but performs much better with a large number of files?

That's always been an option on my mind, but i don't see how the downsides are any different from SVN when i have a huge number of files.

Do you have any more input?
