Custom lenght psu cable ?

Hello ! I would like to mod my personal rig and I would like to begin with the cable of my modular psu. They are too long. Is it possible to make my homemade psu cable ? Or can I just make them look better with a custom sleeving ? Thank you.

Ya you can cut the cables down in length or even buy new bare cable then sleeve it... You will need new pins and a special tool to affix them.

They are color coded for the manufacturer to keep track of (See pic).  You can just use all black cable, the color is irrelevant, just make sure each wire goes into the respective pin on the connector. Also I would keep and reuse the connector that came with your PSU so it will fit in the plug.

Also I think most PSUs use 18 gauge. Double check this before you start.

I have a bequiet! modular psu can I find somewhere the same modular connectors that goes into my psu. So I could make my own psu and if I failed I still have my original cables. And is there a pattern for the pci cable like the 24pin cable ?

I know this is an old thread but I am seeking to have this clarified somewhat more. As you said, the different colored wires are simply made by the manufacturer that way so they can "keep track" of them. If this is the case than why does one need to ensure the cables go back into their exact connector when sleeving a multi-colored cable?

Best to start a new thread since this is a fairly old thread but for power diagram you can completely re-arrange the power lines as long as they are in the correct placement of the 24 pin ATX specs. However there are certain lines such as the Power ON, 5V SB, Power OK, and -12V lines that have certain locations that must be installed.
