  • why are you thinking about selling the 1060 and buying a 1070? Are you finding that the 1060 can't keep your gaming fps at/around 60?
  • what monitor do you have specifically (IE which model, does it support Gsync or Freesync?)
  • are you considering getting a better monitor? (IE 1440p or 4k, something with Gsync or Freesync support?)

Also... Not sure if your price is in USD or Canadian Ruples but I sold a few 1070's on ebay over the last few months and they've been going for about $250 there. A hybrid went for 300ish.

Anyway, generally a 1060 6gb should be fine for 1080p / 60, so unless you're noticing gpu-limited framerate issues I wouldn't bother with a step up to a 1070. Yes it is better, but if the graphics card is not the weakest link in your chain, no reason to update only it when it is already pulling it's fair share.

Moreover, the way you worded it sounds like your local shop wants to charge you $285 + your 1060 for their used 1070. If your price is in US dollars they are hoping to rip you a new butt hole and I would never shop there again.

Im thinking about getting a 144hz and its the 1060 3gb not the 6gb, thats the main reason im upgrading gpu is because of the vram. And its in euro

ok I apologize for misunderstanding.

so 285 euros is ~ 323 USD. I'm not sure if the used market is much more expensive there, but the 250 USD I sold some 1070's for is about 220 euros
With that in mind the shop wants to keep your 1060 3gb and 285 euros to give you a used 1070... without knowing the prices there, I would never accept that.

Since you are wanting a 144hz display, definitely an upgrade makes sense, however. If you want to stick with Nvidia cards and 1080p (just upgrade to 1080p 144hz Gsync) a 1070 should be a perfect match, but comparing your euro prices to USD it seems that shop wants far too much money from you. Again, since I do not know the market values in Ireland maybe that is a fair price up there, but I would check eBay prices, any import taxes you might incur etc and compare before making a purchase.

Seems you can definitely acquire a used 1070 for less than that shops asking price. I see several on there for ~ 200 euro + 15 euro post... and you would still be able to sell your 1060 3gb to recoup some of the cost.

always auction. If you search for completed listing that sold, you will have a good idea of what the auction prices finish at, which is almost always substantially lower than what most people set a Buy It Now price to.

That's a good plan :) best of luck!
