Difference between these core 2 cpus?

Difference between these: Core 2 Quad q9400, Core 2 Quad q9500, Core 2 Quad q9650

 

Is there any actual significance between getting either of these besides price and around 200 mhz difference? They're all 4 cores and seem to have the same specs except for processor speed.

Clock speed and amount of cache.

They're all from the same gen and scale with clocks, the only difference being the 9650 has 12MB of cache while the 9400 and 9500 have 6. The 9650 is only 14% better than the 9400, and 6% better than the 9500. Higher clocks are better, but I think there are some mods that you can do (bsel mod) that might work to increase the frequencies.

The motherboard supports these cpus, but does cache size matter that much?

In all honesty, I'd buy the Q9500. The Q9650 is about 2.5* the price for a very marginal performance gain. 

 

My Q9500 OCed to 4 GHz.
