Hi,

 

 

I was upgrading the RAM in my laptop and noticed this port. Does anybody know which kind of port this is?

That's a 7-pin SATA connector, most commonly used to fit Blu-Ray or DVD drives in laptops.

Although in this case it looks like it's being used with a converter board to connect a standard HDD.

Desktop: HP Z220 Workstation, 12 GB RAM, 2x500 GB HDD RAID0, + GTX 1060 3GB

Laptop: ThinkPad T430, 8 GB RAM, 1x120 GB SSD

It looks like mini-SATA (or slimline) connector.

I see it when I look closer. Lol I thought my HDD was directly plugged into the motherboard. ?

yea, the laptop doesn't have an DVD or bluray player.

It used to have it, but MSI removed it
