Ubuntu....

Go to solution Solved by Denned,

I use this tool myself: http://www.pendrivelinux.com/universal-usb-installer-easy-as-1-2-3/

32bit should be enough, I don't think there's anything in mining that would benefit from 64bit

I have 2gigs of ram should I use a 32bit or 64bit? I am new to this so I have no idea this rig is going to be mining 24/7!

Edit: Also how do I install and run this on a flash drive?

There are dedicated mining Linux mining distros such as BAMT and SMOS.

Well I would like to also use it as a media pc so can I still mine without them?

There is no reason you couldn't. Mining software is software just like any other software. As long as you have the right hardware you can run it.

Also keep in mind that mining is immensely taxing on the GPU, so many things will be terribly slow or outright crash if they need the GPU at all. If I am mining and I forget to turn off the miner before I play video then my GPU driver crashes. And once I started Metro: last light without halting the miner and was getting single digit FPS. If by Media PC you mean media server I'm sure you'll be fine, But if by Media PC you mean HTPC then you might need to think again, or hope it all works without issue. If the latter setting the intensity lower might let you have less problems in exchange for a lower hashrate.

My rig: 2600k(4.2 GHz) w/ Cooler Master hyper 212+, Gigabyte Z68-UD3H-B3, Powercolor 7870 xt(1100/1500) w/AIO mod,

8GB DDR3 1600, 120GB Kingston HyperX 3K SSD, 1TB Seagate, Antec earthwatts 430, NZXT H2

Verified max overclock, just for kicks: http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=2609399
