RAM Compatibility

Hi guys! Just wondering if I could use an 8gb stick of drr4 2133 alongside a ddr4 16gb(2*8gb)kit @ ddr4 3000mhz. I found a good deal for 16gb, but don't want to trash my current ram. Thanks!

You probably can? (Mixing and matching is off and on)

 

You should get rid of the current stick anyways because it will force the 16gb to run at 2133 as well.

Thanks for the response! I'm fine with all the sticks @2133 since that's already more than fast enough for my use case. But what do you mean by off and on? is it impossible to know until you try it, or is there a method i can use to check if I can do that?

You'll be limited to the speed of the slowest DIMM, however if that doesn't bother you then you'll have no issues using it.

24gb RAM is actually pretty useful for me, so I probably won't atleast not yet. Maybe if it turns out to not be very useful
