Hi! I need help with a PC upgrade. This is my current PC, is a prebuilt PC.

HP Pavilion Desktop - 560-p058ns

Motherboard

My current issue is that the CPU (i3 6100) is bottlenecking my NVIDIA 1060 3G.

What I wanna do?

I want to upgrade the CPU and what I THINK is a good replacement is the RYZEN5 2600...

BUT if I buy the RYZEN I would need to buy a B450 motherboard and also a new case and power supply (this one came with only 300W. I would keep the same 8gb RAM and GPU.

I'm a noob in PC matters... always been a laptop guy but this past year I fell in love with PC gaming.

Do you guys agree with my choices?

I don't wanna pay too much for the upgrade but also want something that kinda is future proof (get 1070 in a year or something).

Thanks!

next year? If it's at the second half of next year then you're looking at Navi, AMD's next gen card.

If you do this you'll just be building a whole new PC, this is what you want isn't it?

The wording of this thread makes it sound like you want to upgrade your current pre-built not build a whole new system.

Check out eBay for a used i5, it's gonna be a lot more convenient than Ryzen upgrade. Also, you will probably need some new thermal paste to reapply to the cooler.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 11 and Fedora Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

PSU tier list

How many watts do I need?

PSU misconceptions, protections explainedgroup reg is bad

Well, my current motherboard doesn't work with ryzen so that would mean a new one and my current case is too small I think...

That´s why I'm asking if it makes sense what I wanna do. The cheaper the option the better.

you might be able to find a used i5-6500/7500 or something like that. It would be much cheaper.

Cant! Would need a new motherboard.and by that point is gonna be the same. The ryzen has better performance right?

Current motherboard works with this:

Processor
TDP
Integrated Graphics
Intel Core i7-6700K (Skylake) 4.0 GHz Quad Core (only with Ariia+)
91 W
Intel HD Graphics (GT2)
Intel Core i7-6700 (Skylake) 3.4 GHz Quad Core
65 W
Intel HD Graphics (GT2)
Intel Core i5-6400 (Skylake) 2.7 GHz Quad Core
65 W
Intel HD Graphics (GT2)
Intel Core i3-6100 (Skylake) 3.7 GHz Dual Core (only with Hal2)
51 W
Intel HD Graphics 530

You shouldn't need a new motherboard for these CPUs. Is there a compatibility list explicitly saying LGA 1151 CPUs aren't compatible like they usually are? The i7 6700 would have better gaming performance than Ryzen as well (of course not by much at all)

if its compat with those, its compat with the i5-6500.

whatever, get a i5-6700 or i5-6400.

i5 6700 is 263 euros here!

The 2600 ryzen is 170 euros right now.

You should never get a 3 generations old i7 for new
