What CPU's are going to work on this motherboard?

I've got an old Acer M1610 mobo with 775 socket support, sis 672 chipset, currently its running a Pentium D cpu, I would like to upgrade to the latest CPU possible.
I've seen some modified Xeons for 775 socket from aliexpress, would they work?

Also, from here --> http://www.ascendtech.us/foxconn-lga775-672m01-1-1-8eksh-ddr2-mb_i_mb4672m0118eksh.aspx it says it supports CPU's only up to 800Mhz FSB and only core 2 duo's, is that true? What would happen if I put a 1200Mhz FSB CPU on it? Would it work anyway? Or maybe a Core 2 quad.

According to Wikipedia the SIS 672 chipset only supports up to Core2 Duo. But any Core2 Duo would be a big upgrade from the Pentium D

Those scores are a bit weird. That Core2 Duo has 33% better single-core speed but 12% slower multi-core even though both are dual core CPU's? I know it has hyperthreading but it shouldn't make such a big difference. Core2 Duo E8400 has 48% better single-core speed and 0% difference on multi-core, but I'm sure it would easily destroy that Pentium D on everything.

This is more like what I'd expect the difference to look like: https://www.cpubenchmark.net/compare/Intel-Pentium-Extreme-Edition-965-vs-Intel-Core2-Duo-E8200-vs-Intel-Core2-Duo-E8600/1132vs950vs957
