I'm planning to Upgrade from my current rather old but capable Desktop PC.

Which is:

Q6600 2.4Ghz Quad Core

Geforce 8800 512Mb

P5QL Pro Mobo

4Gb's OCZ Reaper Ram

700W Power Supply (Overkill I know but it was going cheap and its bronze what ever certified)

1TB Hardrive

120Gb OCZ Vertex 3 Low Profile Edition

Mid Tower Case (God knows what I found it sat around my house one day)(Good cooling with the case)

This baby Runs all the modern Games such as BF4 and AC Black Flag (at low settings of course) at a playable amount of FPS.

The reason why I refer to this as a build / upgrade is because I'm only changing the CPU GPU Mobo and the Ram as well as getting an addition cooler.

So here is the planned Components to purchase, I'm a student so the budget has to be tight as I do have over things in my life to do other than PC gaming joyful.png

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant / Benchmarks

CPU:  AMD FX-8320 3.5GHz 8-Core Processor  (£109.31 @ Ebuyer)

CPU Cooler:  Zalman CNPS10X OPTIMA CPU Cooler  (£16.97 @ CCL Computers)

Motherboard:  Asus M5A97 EVO R2.0 ATX AM3+ Motherboard  (£72.70 @ Amazon UK)

Memory:  Crucial 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory  (£56.50 @ Ebuyer)

Video Card:  Gigabyte Radeon R9 270X 2GB Video Card  (£158.72 @ Scan.co.uk)

Total: £414.20

(Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available.)

The build has been changed slightly, This is the most latest build: http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/2xXZe

My budget is £418 give or take a few pence (Im British get over it)

The Ram I have picked out is awfully cheap and it's is the cheapest (2x4gb) set I could find and this doesn't really matter to me because I believe that more ram is better and none of the "Fads" which are all this gamer ram stuff is really worth it in terms of price to performance and I could easily add another 2 sticks in when pay day comes around.

The Mobo has X-fire capabilities purely because In year or less I will likely put another R9-270x which is why I went with a good processor to avoid bottlenecking issues.

Of course I'm ready to change my mind if you could find me something cheaper with better performance or something better at a very slightly better price I really don't mind. I'm completely open to any suggestions which you may have and I would love to hear them. Just have in mind that my main use for this machine will be gaming as well as doing a bit of work occasionally. I like to listen to music loud and currently I have a Amp connected to my PC which goes out to the surrounding speakers so maybe something with 7.1 surround sound if possible or just good sound quality, I'm not a particular Mobo expert so I don't really know what's what when it comes to on-board sound and a sound card will likely exceed my budget.

When I get the parts I will put pictures up of the build on the forums although it is a pretty standard build and nothing too exciting. Thanks for the help :D

I've heard nothing but good things about the 212 EVO. I've always been a bit split on the R9 270 but seeing the money which can be saved for the same performance has swung me. Getting my build for  £400 is brilliant. I am going to switch out the gigabyte for the XFX version because the gigabyte 2x cooler is ugly and I get BF4 with the XFX which my mate wants. Thanks so much.

That will work fine, just be warned that XFX cards cont have the best cooling, so if you overclock you might see some throttling. Also, the 272 and the 270X are the exact same thing, one is just slower, and you can always overclock anyway, which is very easy. Glad I could help  :)
