Cedar Mill V2

LukeSavenije

I had some spare time this weekend, some old and newer parts laying around and I wanted to do something fun with my working setup upstairs.

Parts used:

Pentium 4 based system from 2003

Lacie 5big (V1) with a horrible atom and one broken port

HP pro 3400 mt

So I originally wanted to start with a HP 6000 series midtower for my motherboard and cpu, but HP used some weird motherboard and psu layout at that time, so it won't fit atx, m-atx or m-itx. So I grabbed my pc upstairs, disassembled it and putted into the case I fully disassembled before. As a mini-itx board it would fit, and I was off the races with it. I kept the 4 dvd players and 3,5 inch floppy player, but couldn't use it becouse of the lack of scsi ports on the motherboard (why would it have it?). I took the Noctua fan from the Lacie, plus the 4 harddrives it had. I wanted something better as the atom inside it couldn't keep up with any server tasks these days. the front usb doesn't work, the leds are in the wrong order, there is no front headphone jack, the fan isn't mounted and I have to get two 5,25 to 3,5 inch bays, but I think it worked out pretty well so far and I'm going to work on it when I have time again.

Specs:

I3-2120

stock cooler

6 gb Micron ram

hp mini-itx motherboard

4x Samsung ecogreen 1 tb 5400 rpm

1x WD scorpio black 7200 rpm (just for a while as boot drive)

HP PSU from the 3400 mt

Iiyama ProLite T2250MTS Touchscreen IPS

Samsung SyncMaster 710n

I'm not. they are not connected because of scsi (ever seen a 2013 prepuilt m-itx board with scsi?)

I know you can run linux. it would actually be able to run windows 10, but I changed the internals because I have 4 other pc's for other uses. still have everything in my garage tho, in a antistatic bag.

I have never used prebuilts and T.I.L about SCSI.

Can you make changes in the bios? Is it user friendly or locked down?

locked down as hell. you can use like the very basic functions in the old-style bios. it's nothing compared to a proper mobo from msi for example
