Gigabite has good vrm.Only ram needs upgrade.Higher frequency and 2 sticks only for better compatibility.

just get a 2x8gb ram kit, and then use the extra money for a better mobo, like a b450 tomahawk

That board can take even 2700x if you wont overclock. But it depends on budget, even 2600 will do the trick. With faster ram,you can match base clock of 2600x without problems. It depends on gpu,if you have mid level no need for better cpu.

Trident z has problems with ryzen processors.Ripsaw v is fully compatible. No need for more expensive board, they have same vrm.If OP wants to upgrade board MSi b450 tomahawk is the best price to performance vise.

In that case, you can probably go with 2600x it is within your budget and you will get couple of extra fps.2600x will boost higher.

that about trident z is new to me, never had problems with it. But both are g.skill, so it's fine. I think it's better to get a atx mobo as they normally have some extra space, headers and generally better overclocking. also, i could be wrong, but that mobo looks like it doesn't have a vrm heatsink, which is strongly suggested even on a budget

I wouldn't get a 2600x as it's pretty expensive for what you get. just get a 2600 and a good cooler

I have trident z @3400mhz unstable as hell even  with manually calculated timings and higher voltage.I have to run at 3200 with 1.38v.(they were fine with my i7 6700k) Ripsaw v doesn't have any problems with AMD.2600 vs 2600x is 30$ even with xfr it will boost higher.Hyper 212 would be still in a budget. There a little jump in performance, but it is the best you can get maxing out 550$ budget.

yeah, sometimes this happens. I would rather get a artic freezer 33 esports edition and a 2600 than a 2600x on a stock cooler

Truly noted,2700x in prime95 avx on is reaching 80c with corsair h150i pro(360mm AIO).I dont even want to imagine temperatures with stock cooler.TPD in torture test is 170w + . Of course aftermarket cooler is preferable, but even hyper 212 will do the job.My point was 2600x will boost higher which is better for gaming.

once again, most chips can overclock as far or further than a x version. but the 212 evo is good, but not the best anymore

212 isnt the best.but it is the best for 15-20$.However,non x chips are the worse in terms of overclocking. When chips are manufactured and tested better chips get X.You can overclock non x chip to match base speeds of X chips but X will always go higher.

disagree. the x series are tested for the frequency, not chosen. you can hit good frequenties on a non-x version, but you aren't guaranteed to. it's like with the 8700k and the 8086k

Exactly  8086k is cherry picked,it will perform better. It was picked as the best silicon from a badge.Rest were designated as 8700k.Same apply to amd, better chips will get X.So they will clock higher with lower voltage.
