Hi everyone!

Looking to get a new TV and not sure what to look into. My pc is now right next to where the TV is (so I can effectively plug an HDMI and play). That said, i know some TVs have a significant enough of input lag. I'm not looking for anything super fancy. Jusy enough to play console and PC games, while also having good enough quality to watch movies. Budget is $500 MAX. I was looking at the 5 series from TCL ( as it has the features I want without a huge premium). I have a 1080ti, so it can handle 4 if I so choose. Any suggestions or brands to look into? We're using an Insignia (Samsung panel) 43in. @1080p.

well as long as the tv has low latency and a good refresh rate. some have high refresh rates.

it depends of the model and how much you want to pay.

also if you have a good budget why no go for a large monitor

To clarify on a few things.

The latency is never going to be as good as a monitor. So that Is going to be a downside.. some tv's in game mode can get under 10ms, but most don't.

When he mentions refresh rate he means true refresh rate which isn't often published. Most of the time you see 240/480/960hz refresh on the specs or advertisement material, but these panels are actually 60 or sometimes 120hz. The other number is the technology they use to insert images to make the picture look smoother and reduce motion blur, but it isn't a image coming from your source (fake). Plus that technology is disabled the moment you turn on game mode which drops you to 60/120hz whichever is the true refresh of the TV.

Thank you. I knew some aspects of this, but thank you for the clarification. I already have a dual monitor setup, but I'd like for this TV to serve as the interchangeable display for games that refresh rate doesn't matter (Ni no Kuni II, Witcher, etc). I'm just curious if anyone has recommendations for a half decent model for my price as I'm not as well versed in home theatre technology as I should be. T-T

duals monitor already, mate. this is for the living room space (i.e., for the wife to watch stuff/play on console while I'm on the PC or for playing single-player games on the couch). Unfortunately $500 is all we can throw at it. I like our current one but it's getting dead pixels and it's probably time to move it along.

Also, if anyone could answer this I'd be really appreciative: is there a way to connect a traditional PC configuration of surround sound system (3.5mm jacks x 3) to a TV more efficiently to utilize the sound of each speaker? Just want to get more use out of my Logitech speakers if I can.
