Compatibility with dual gpu

Hey guys I am currently running a 'msi geforce gtx 1050 oc edition 2gb' gpu  on a 'gigabyte h170 d3h motherboard' and intel(r) core(tm) i5-7400 cpu @ 3.00ghz with 24gb ram and corsair cx600 as my psu. So the main thing is i am wanting to get an extra gpu, so it is okay if i go and purchase a 'MSI GeForce GTX 1060 OC V2 6GB Graphics Card' or does it have to be the same as a my current gpu to have dual gpus. thanks.

Sure it will boot into Windows just fine, but it wont run games better than just a single gtx 1060.

Let me clear this up.

 

You can have multiple cards in a system. They're only required to be identical cards if you want to run SLI or CrossFire. You could play games on the 1060 and run displays off of the 1050, no problems. But you wouldn't be able to use both cards for gaming at the same time.

Don't bother, just buy a better single card like a 1070. If you're playing at 1080p, just get an RX580 or similar.

There isn’t a point to multiple cards unless the monitors are limited or old. 

 

You can put as many cards in as the mobo and psu can support though.
