I had an old editing rig that died just a few days ago and honestly it isn't worth fixing the 470 in there because it wasn't even doing all that great when editing/3D modeling for me.
i'm going to put a GT 730 in it that I used to use (its probably laying in the parts pile somewhere) and sell it for like $150 as a start up gaming rig which give me $150 to add on to my around $900 budget (that is in USD)
So, what is the best 'bang for the buck' video editing rig that i can get for around $1000?
(also i'm going to need lots of storage in this thing, i'm thinking of getting at least 10 Tb of storage in it and whatever speed doesn't matter)
CPU is not a problem as I still have the i7 8700k that was replaced by a i9 9900k in my gaming rig (maybe I could switch the two around if it would make a dramatic different to my editing performance and minimal detriment to my gaming performance)
i honestly don't care about RGB (i know it sounds crazy not having RGB in a rig)
I don't care if the colors match either or side panel windows or whatever as long as it all works and functions as an editing/3D modeling Rig i'm all good.
it has to be able to run minesweeper and solitair XD
if you need more info about it then let me know but honestly I have no idea what is good for video editing and 3D modeling XD

(this is what I have so far)
(i cant decide on a GPU yet)

I would put more money in motherboard and buy a Z370 chipset. With B360 you won't be able to overclock 8700K in future and you will get less PCI lanes. Here is one I was looking at

https://pcpartpicker.com/product/Fr2rxr/gigabyte-z370-aorus-gaming-wifi-rev-10-atx-lga1151-motherboard-z370-aorus-gaming-wifi-rev-10

Also I would recommend a 250G SSD. May be WD Blue

https://pcpartpicker.com/product/w27v6h/western-digital-blue-250gb-m2-2280-solid-state-drive-wds250g2b0b

Both of the upgrades will cost you $20 each but that is completely worth it in my opinion

why a bigger m.2 drive?
it's only going to be used as a boot drive

As said above i would deffinetly go for a Z370
Also 3000MHz on the RAM doesnt give you a benefit over 2400MHz, since intel chips dont go over 2400 if i remember correctly.

I am here to learn, please correct me if im wrong or you see me putting bs on your screen!

are you not gonna put programs and app on there ?
i myself reach the 120GB and using SSDs you don't want to cross the 80-90% mark. this will shorten their lifespan significantly.

Even if you are going to use it as a boot drive, you will fill up 128G in no time with just the OS and essential software.  As SSDs fill up their performance drops and their lifespan shortens. So you want to have some headroom. Also, you can install most used software on SSD and that will help you as well.

and sure i guess i'll go higher and maybe even get 500 Gb

8700K supports up to 2666 Mhz without enabling XMP. I am running my system at 3000 MHz with XMP enabled. Although real world difference is negligible.

good to know, ty.
should have known, i run the 2666's on my 8700K as well.

what about the i9 9900k?

I think it is the same 2666 MHz but you can just enable XMP in BIOS and use whatever speed your memory is rated at. It is easy to do that.

As long as your system is stable, none

would Overclocking get in the way of that?
and is there really any benefit to it?

Increasing RAM speed to what it is rated for should not cause any issues. Overclocking your CPU won't be affected by enabling with XMP. Higher ram speed helps with better performance and productivity. It helps me in the applications I use (Engineering and physics simulations). This video explains things that you are looking for

https://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Intel/Core_i7_8700K_Coffee_Lake_Memory_Performance_Benchmark_Analysis/ provides some interesting data. While there are notable exceptions, for the most part performance of Coffee Lake systems is marginally affected by higher memory speeds.

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.
