So.. I installed Windows XP for some odd reason, I guess because I'm comfortable with it and it's still a pretty nice OS.. But.. I'm at a cross roads, do I just use it until I can buy Windows 8.1? Or do I go with Linux? I want my next reformat on this SSD to be the last one, its fitness is getting pretty weak and I know it's toward its end. (Too many reformats for a normal person, I've had upwards of probably 30 different OS reinstalls on just the SSD, not to mention my 1TB storage drive.) What should I go with?

I did have Arch installed on this machine but it never worked right because I was in a hurry and ran everything in root.. I was thinking about trying it again.

Your SSD is fine. Then again, if your goal is to keep it for 11 years, than this is a different story, but 7-9 years should be fine.

The current OS is up to you. Windows XP allows you to run your Windows games and programs. Linux not so much. But if you just web surf and listen to music, than I don't think it maters.

I did too ! Two day's ago, but on an old Dell Optiplex desktop. I was planing to use as a NAS. Then I laughed when I found out that file sharing doesn't work as it should with win 8(and 8.1) machines. Then I removed it, and booted freeNAS from a thumb drive. Now I'm happy.  Just wanted to share my experience. And your SSD is probably fine, as GoodBytes said.  I must say the old XP brought back memories...
