So I was digging into hardware development, and was wondering about modding the OnePlus 6T i am gonna get. This guy here did it for iPhones, so is is doable for android devices as well?

If there's enough space for it sure. Though, without the right tools, it would be really difficult.

You can pretty much "mod" anything, the question is why would you want to? IMO there isn't much reason to go to those extremes to mod a phone. Hell there is very little reason to even root them these days.

All I can say is without the proper tools, that would be really, REALLY hard. Plus, looking at teardown videos of the phone, I really don't see any spare room for a jack.

That doesn't mean they are compatible. There's a lot more to this then just drilling a hole and soldering a headphone jack in from an older board.

He had access to a CNC and used custom made PCBs he designed himself and was manufactured in China. As something that complex would never be made in a batch of one outside China. It also took him many months to do. It's not practical and you could easily buy a $4 dongle for the same thing

And the OP6T would be even more difficult as the lower PCB (where the charger is) is a completely different design then the OP6. the Ribbon connections are even different to the mainboard.

So, essentially with all of the information present, it's not worth using phones? I mean, I like using technology mostly because I get to customize and mix and match parts like I do in PCs and laptops, but for phones? It feels like we're buying proprietary slabs of metal and circuitry at inflated prices for taking pictures on Le Snapchat. Now I feel less motivated to buy phones now.

Well, there were attempts at upgradeable phones they all flopped as far as I know.

As for me, I have a 5T and, all I use it for is Spotify and movie watching. *cough*
