hey, so my friend is on a $2000 budget, he wants me to build it... so i went ahead and put together this list

he mostly wants it to have gaming at its best.. i decided not to put a case because it would look so much cooler without a case, especially since the water cooling and all the RGB, as you can see, there is an extra $300 left over, should i go ahead and add to the list? or should i exclude that for games? i think he does not want to record / stream, but he still might, considering me and him were talking about him starting a channel so we can collab ?

mostly he wants max settings 1080p at over 60fps, he already has a keyboard and mouse plus a headset, so he does not need that.. also should i just over charge and keep the extra money? lol jk.. of course i will XD im kidding i wouldnt do that..

anywho he never specified what games he wants to play, but he has csgo, overwatch, and TF2, but he was talking about wanting to play PUBG max settings without dropping below 100.. so i think this is perfect.. he also said to go all out on RGB, since he loves rgb stuff...

anyways, should this be sufficient for $2k?

ps.. he will probably play r6 as well

Ryzen would be better price/performance, you should be able to fit a 2700x in that budget.

Please, for the love of everything good on this earth, do not get an Amp card. They tend to struggle with VRM cooling. Avoid MSI Armor cards as well, get something from Gigabyte or Asus.

120GB of SSD really isn't a lot, Windows on its own will take up most of it. Aim for a 240GB SSD at the very least.

DDR4-4000 is really overkill, tone that down to at most DDR4-3200.

I'd get some kind of case personally, you'll need something to hold everything in.

Other than those points, all looks good.

EDIT: I also just want to say that I originally misunderstood your thread title and immediately thought of an Athlon 64 X2 4000+ and a 9800GTX. Might be a good idea to stick a $ sign in there...

240? got it.. also should i do m.2? smaller form factor (i am using smart words, are you proud of me now? lol) he does not do much decelopment so he wont be booting mono develop or visual studio, which are the 2 things on my laptop that take the longest to boot.. so m.2 240gb?

what about a wooden board with 4 supports around the corners and rope wrapper around the supports, like a fence? or maybe just an open side case? (all sides except bottom and top open)

It's really up to you, there's not too much of a difference between M.2 and SATA in terms of speed. SATA will usually be cheaper.

With a $2000 budget, you should have a proper case.

That just means that one of your SATA ports will be disabled when one of your M.2 slot is being used, since the M.2 slot uses the SATA bus and shares bandwidth with one of the SATA ports. Your board's manual should state which SATA port is disabled when using an M.2 slot.

yeah im just sticking to the familiar and using an SSD, i managed to fit an AMD Ryzen 2600 and a GTX 1080ti, when watercooled i plan on decent overclocks.. i showed him the list and he says he likes it, but i started reading the specs to him and i lost him at that point.. so i explained “any game mex settings 1080p 60fps

he understood that

2600 is a good CPU, will a 2700 really not fit?

it probably will, but he says he wants to go all out on RGB so i need to keep some aside for that.. plus a capture card and a 144hz monitor

Gotcha. That looks like a pretty solid build.

he just confirmed he wants to record the games, but since he will be getting a 144 hz monitor he wont see much of a difference

plus i will probably OC the CPU and GPU, considering he has watercooling

No point getting a 'K' cpu with a B360 chipset. Does he want to overclock ?

Also you can't run ram that speed on B360. The fastest is 2666MHz. Anything over that will just clock down.

A 1070 ti would be good enough for 1080p if you wanted to save some money.

1070ti can run everything at at least 60?

anyways i changed the CPU for a Ryzen 2600

the motherboard is compatible with 3000 / 3200mhz ram now, i boosted it to 16gb (2x8)

and he says if it can stay cool enough, overclocking is a possibility

Yeah you shouldn't have any issues getting over 60fps with a 1070 ti.

You should definately overclock the R5 2600 as much as possible as you will get slightly less performance than you would with an Intel cpu at 1080p otherwise.
