NAS storage help

I have a Linksys Media Hub Home Entertainment Storage unit and I'm wondering do I have to use the software it comes with? Is their any other software I can use? Just the current software runs slow, it crashes and I cannot add other file directories. This is my first storage server so I'm clueless..

What os are your clients using? You can mount the drive on most systems as its a noraml smb file share. You don't need their software to use the NAS at all.
