so putting both in for example the grey slots how it is specificated in the mobo manual

Gonna give an exemple. This is on my mobos.

1 | 2  |  3 |  4, imagine these are the slots, 1 and 2 are one channel. And 3 and 4 the other one.

Most of the times your mobo manual will recommend using 2, then 4, 1 and lastly 3.(on the msi and asus's i own)

Just try not to mix on the same channel. As i said, putting them on a different channel(in ur case, slot 2 and 4) will work 99.9% of the time

Hello,

i want to upgrade my ram

i have a 8GB Crucial Ballistix Sport LT grey DDR4-2400 stick

and want to upgrade my system to 16 GB.

I saw that crucial made a RGB model of this stick (8GB Crucial Ballistix Tactical Tracer RGB) and i was wondering, if i could buy this one and use the both sticls just like they where the same. I would only use this temporarily, I want to swap the non RGB stick in the future, so I havethe same RGB sticks

Sorry for my bad English (I try to do my best)

It could, and it should. but using different ram sticks is always a bet. and if it doesn't work, just return it.

it may work, but not in dual channel since the timings and speeds are different (can be adjusted in bios)

so should i downclock the nwe one then to 2400mhz?

if you're running on the same speed and timing it should, right?

Ive been experimenting last week.

As long as you dont mix brands or speeds on the same channel it works 99% of the time.

I tried 2 brands on the same channel(same MHz) and my pc just wouldnt boot.

I am here to learn, please correct me if im wrong or you see me putting bs on your screen!

downclock speed, but also the timings. But overall not too experienced with this. Only done it once before with success

You see i'm not too sure. In theory if you manually adjusted the speed and timing it should work (not using XMP settings). Done it with two different G.Skill ram sticks

Successful Builds

you have with most mainstream processors that they have two memory channels (a and b) if you use two different channels, you'll get two single channel sticks that work kinda separate from each other

Like most mobos have dual channel. Left slot and right slot. But on mobos with 4 slots they are grooped by 2.

So i tried putting a crucial ballistic ddr3 4gb 1333MHz on the same channel as a "chinese brand" ddr3 4gb 1333MHz and this crashed my pc on boot
